Rachel Reeves

If you read my post properly I was referring to Labour as a whole , not you an an individual.

Labour were at pains pre election, campaigning, and post election to not mention external factors, they all parroted the " 14 years of Tories " mantra.
Is the correct answer

Why quote my post then?

And of course they did, but that wasn't explicitly about inflation, was it? They gave Labour plenty of other self-inflicted ammo to give weight to the "14 years" mantra.

Labour pledge to ‘tear down’ barriers after new figures reveal Brexit costing UK business £37bn a year

Where are the disabled going to get that type of money?

😎

Germany is inviting us back into the customs union, there is £8/10 billions for a start.

Starmer you must get real.

The benefit cuts will mean millions in extra costs for Councils and the NHS, austerity is not saving at all its just passing it on.

Like talking to a brick wall.

🙁

If the BBC are now asking questions, then it would appear the Two Tier wants her gone.
The BBC have amazed me by doing this by the way but happy days!
She is still here, idle speculation .

Correct, but in politics timing is everything. Often the media hold onto a story until they can cause maximum damage / publicity. I am not saying she has done anything wrong but as others have suggested if she is damaged goods then why get rid now?

Starmer is probably thinking let her give the public the bad news and then get rid by the end of the year.

It's a bit like a manager being lined up for the sack, no point doing it before the game away to Liverpool as it becomes the next manager's problem, better to start the new guy with the home game after that.

We normally win there so won’t be OG 😀

The future will tell all.

Appoint a strong chancellor with broad experience of life and essentially not only banking.

End BOE independence, bring them in-house and cut interest rates by 2% bringing us into line with Europe.

End the system by which they shell out billions of our money to their mates for no reason that anyone can think of.

BOE - a white van to the back door.

😎

I posted this in another thread.
Starmer announces that the Civil Service needs to reduce costs by 15%.
To save £2b by the end of the decade.
Utterly useless!!
While the Tories are mainly to blame, the CS has grown by over 100,000 people in 8 years - why - no need - everything is worse and yet they employ more people?
Sack 50,000 now - they will all find work somewhere - and save £7.5b a year straightaway!
Welfare savings - £5b a year by the end of the decade - pointless - this country borrowed nearly £11b in February to pay the interest on our debts.
What good will these savings do really, because new jobs will continue to be advertised and taken - the savings will never happen in reality.
Labour are just not capable of reducing the public sector radically and making it more streamlined and efficient.
They have a chance but they are not taking it, instead they have turned growth into shrinkage and big debt into huge debt and a recession - a proper one - on the way - Rachel Reeves is out of her depth.

I would add that it they stop the train crash that is met zero and do it in a more orderly fashion then that would really help the finances.

I can't say I am in favour of a 15% cut across the board. I have been on the receiving end of this type of strategy before, it just causes pain and leaves the problem for the next government to resolve.

What will happen is that there will be a hiring freeze and things like training and budget cut backs. This wont impact the senior management though.

However this is a shotgun approach to the problem rather than a sniper. There will be areas such as Border Force and Prisons for example where more money and staff are required.

So rather than throw the baby out with the bath water a better solution is to look for radical savings in specific areas.

I have mentioned before that the DTI is more or less the same size as back in the 1970's when half the economy was nationalised, what on earth are these people doing?

There are hundreds of Quangos stuffed full of the great and the good can they not be amalgamated or abolished completely?

There must be levels of management within the Civil Service that could be trimmed back?

I doubt any of this will happen, more likely there will be fewer prison guards and staff at airports.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has confirmed she accepted free tickets to a Sabrina Carpenter concert, saying she will declare them.
Speaking on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Reeves said she attended the concert a couple of weeks ago with a family member.
"I do now have security which means it's not as easy as it would have been in the past to just sit in a concert," she said.

Wow, she needs Security now, because she is so utter 5hlt at the job.

Ironically, she is depriving many tens of thousands of fundamental living security that they are entitled to,

I agree.
I did mean targeted and you are right - some areas need investment

Pathetic excuse for accepting freebies. What next, I had to drink free champagne as they ran out of tea?
