Our Prem survival is now looking 99% safe.

And so the Football-genie emerges from the Lamp and grants you one wish :

- finish high in the table, especially above Brighton
or
- Go for European glory, and get into the Europa League in '26/27.

For illustration, we recently saw Spurs win their first silverware in ages, and barely survive in the Prem. And then they sacked Ange Postologiougopolis. And i am sure Eagles need no reminding that there is more money the higher you finish in the Prem.

European Glory : you may be forgiven for thinking the third tier of Europe, against a bunch of tiny skint kips, is not that glorious. And that its far more prestigious for us to finish above the likes of wealthy Nottm Forest, Spurs, Leeds, & Brighton. But which gets remembered forever after ?

Just so we can add "champions of Europe, you'll never sing that"

oh cmon. Its not really the CL or the Europa League. If the former were Michelin Star restaurants......the Uefa Conference would be 'champions of the fried Chicken shacks'. We win a semi final against WingStop.......and then wait to see who we play in the playoff between Morleys and Tennessee Fried Chicken.

Even if we won the conference, you could argue that only makes us the 73rd best team in Europe. But I'd still take it as I think unless we change style, we should look better in that competition and I don't see much but struggles in the league next season. The thought of Parish and Hobbs choosing a manager and revamping the squad fills me with dread

The chat of European victory is completely insane. All season fans have been talking as though we can just rock up and win the thing. Like we have a choice.

What has anyone seen so far that give them optimism for the rest of the campaign?

We were rubbish in Europe when we were playing well domestically

Incredibly we are only 3 points off 8th place, which might give us Conference League again next season, and with a decent run in that is starting to look achievable again, plus the extra revenue might help to attract better players I suppose.

I still think we have to try to go deep in the conference competition just to stick it to UEFA though. If we can qualify for Europe two years running it will be truly like waiting for a bus.

So basically my answer is dunno.

Similar to the FA Cup and Community Shield, winning a Euro competition will last for ever, unlike a 12th-17th PL position. I just wish we had a few more points so that i could feel more relaxed because winning the Conf.League would certainly not make a relegation easier to accept. In a way, not winning on Thursday would put us out of our misery in that competition given the dross witnessed against supposedly weaker teams which have strangely worked us out. Maybe if do progress however, we might play better against the better standard teams left??? So, in summary, I'm also in the "dunno" camp, tending towards Conf. League but not at the expense of the PL.

There are a number of reasonable teams in our way to the final. Mainz, Strasbourg, Fiorentina, Rayo Vallecano and some tricky ties like Samsunspor and AEK where the teams and fans like to create an intimidating atmosphere. It’s very much the luck of the draw. Anyway UEFA would appoint Darren England or similar for the final just to ensure we don’t win!
We know who we have to play in the league and our chances especially if we up our game now as the pressure recedes. I’ll take a high League placing and the money over pie in the sky.

To win a cup the team has to play well in each game (and henceforth actually win each of them). So far playing well in Europe has proved elusive. Probably better chance of jamming it in the Premiership.

its paradoxical how poor we have been against small-money european teams.
It’s the same old story we can’t break teams down who set out their stall to defend. Maybe we would have more chance against better teams left in the competition? But of course we need a defence who aren’t stuck on the physio table to stop them scoring and that might be a problem.
