Prostate Cancer test

Seems very much a backward step.
A routine well man check in 2016 resulted in a psa, text and I was monitored under watchful waiting regime.
Reading over a nine year period went significantly upwards, until it was discovered that I suffered from Prostate Enlargement requiring surgery.Strangely,no symptons.
Thankfully,a complete success and biopsy showed me to be cancer free.
Would recommend asking for the psa,if experiencing any of the well known symptons.

"Men aged over 50 will no longer be entitled to a blood test to help identify the disease, with GPs instead deciding who is given one"

If there is one thing that can unite us all here is that this is a bad idea?
This is a subject close to my heart!

I have had prostate cancer for the last 16 years. Had the prostate removed, was told I was cancer free, saw it recur, had salvage radiotherapy, saw it disappear again only to see it recur again this year. Now on hormone therapy with nasty side effects.

I have mixed feelings about this announcement. In my experience GPs won’t refuse a reasonable request. So if you have concerns, ask and if refused think of changing your GP or paying privately. It won’t be very expensive!

Whether there should be routine screening is another question. Instinct says why not, what’s to lose but apparently there are many occasions when a rise in PSA without symptoms is a false alarm, requiring no treatment and causing unnecessary concerns. Responding to symptoms, especially the need to pee during the night, is important. Rather than just ask for a blood test to check PSA, ask the GP for a DRA. They can do that themselves and if they find anything suspicious refer you to a urologist. That was how my cancer was found! I was symptomless, or at least unaware of them, and my GP referred me because they spotted something. They didn’t tell me why, so it was a huge shock to learn I had it.

There needs to be some kind of protest against this. Any man over fifth years of age should be on a two yearly PSA testing programme full fuckin stop.

Prevention, as they will tell you, is better than cure so why are the pillocks that be, stopping these tests?
Rise up lads, not literally of course, and fuckin demand your PSA tests.

We need to get a petition going and slap this pox ridden government up the chops with this one lads. It'll take someone more au fait with these things than me to get one up and running but I'll be ready to sign if one gets off the ground.

They probably didn't get a chance to interrupt you.

I'm waiting for Polanski or Sultana to tweet that they don't want to save any old white men. Not like they'll lose any votes.
Actually, you are more likely to get it if black - prostate cancer is clearly racist.

PSA test does not inform you if you have or do not have cancer.

The test is just like the covid one not fit for purpose (Neither was deigned to be used this way)

Both have done more harm then good especially the PSA one which has resulted in many people having invasive procedures when there was no need.

The statistics for prostate cancer are high all all parties it should get a lot more attention.

Look at why has it become a problem now in the past it really wasn't and it realistically comes down to lifestyle/diet the same with many other diseases we are seeing increase in even at younger ages.

Is there a new test? I thought I heard something about that.

Most of the claimed test are BS all about $$$$

The multi approach which uses different range of tests is the better way it takes longer and costs more.

Cancer will never have a cure too much money to be made from it and in the very distance future if they did that would only be because something else has taken it's place.

Health industry is about disease management they don't want people healthy and will only be rapid to find solution when death rates spike all of a sudden because dead people are not earning them money but long term sick are.

Terrible.

The PSA test is a massive win. It also spotted I was pre-diabetic before I developed type 2, and I'm not fat btw. It changed my diet.

This is completely short sighted and should be opposed. Let's stop cervical screening too while we're at it and see the women go bonkers

I've been tested several times. The more the better because, let's face it, once you've had a finger up your arse, nothing else comes close.

Blacks are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer. This is clearly racist.

You wait, it'll be blacks only next

Is that not the capitalism you desire?
