The furore around the Cambridge Professor of Sociology goes far beyond accusations of academic plagiarism.

Apparently, Arday said during the Talking Matters Podcast with Nick Halley that he played 'semi-professionally' for Crystal Palace for several years but failed to make the grade (for reasons unclear).

So, do any of those with a long or careful memory recall him playing in any of the development or academy/youth teams...ever ??!! Almost a case of stolen valor in a sporting sense if it turns out a fib !!

How on earth does one play semi pro for a whole pro team?

I seem to recall some years back a bloke lying on his CV he could speak mandarin. He was imprisoned for fraud.

At the time my first thought was not how audacious but how in heaven he thought he was not going to get found out in minute one of his new career?

Likewise this mountebank.

Anything is possible for someone who claims to have run 600 miles in 6 days and to have completed 30 marathons in 35 days (9 of them with a broken leg). He also claimed to have been in the first Seven Up programme which was made 21 years before he was born.

Yes, I wondered on the 'semi-pro' claim? Would any youth under 16 need to be paid? Over that age, I wonder what players contracts say? They would'nt need to get only appearance payouts like amateur or low tier leagues?

I know you 'turn pro' in sports but what does that mean in a modern context when you are 'on the books' of a club. Weird world in sports contracts because clearly general employment law only applies somewhat. Anyway he is a popinjay and a Walt, clearly.

he is not the only fecker to 'pretend to be a Crystal Palace player' , some of them were on our payroll.
The fake sociology professor probably scored more goals for us than Shefki kuqi. And whizzing on the train past Norwood Jnc he probably got closer to onside.

Classic DEI hire, but surely they could've chosen someone else other than this fantasist clown.
Never trust a man wearing makeup, that should've been the first warning sign.

there is nothing new or ground-breaking in this story. Academia has been a joke for many decades. Its very amusing watching Trump cutting the funding of all these Woke institutions and their woke nonsense.

property crash
currency crash
credit crunch
dotcom bubble
etc...

The University sector is long overdue a massive crash. A loss of confidence in the value of plastic crappy degrees..... and a concomitant walkaway by employers and students alike.

And when you look at the recruitment methods of many employers, 'lost confidence' has already started.

Arday claims he played for Palace between 18-21 y.o . He was born in 1985, so that makes it 2003-06 timeframe, the years when Dowie was in charge and we had a season in the Prem followed by failures in Championship play-offs.

With a bit of research, I reckon I could blow the cobwebs off some memories. Can remember SJ building up the Academy then after the Goldberg admin. Maybe I will tweet him and ask if he recalls a J Arday on his books or even call TalkSport and ask him on the blower 🤣 Im sure his response will be priceless!
