Like the team and the minutes being handed out but think we should give Richards a break and play Lerma. Also give Guessand a go up front and have JSL ready on the bench. Maybe throw Osorio, Timber and Gozo on for 20 mins as well.

Not sure what's happening with Guessand and Lerma, I think they got the hump

These games are always tougher than expected. Championship are a week further into their seasons and Boro are playing well.

If we defend like we did against Fulham then I think we'll lose as you can't get away with it twice in a row.

The team we put out will be interesting too... Whether he sticks with something similar in order to improve the chemistry or give new players the chance to prove what they can do. I think there'll be a few changes tbh... Which could mean quite a disjointed performance. 1-1 and pens.

Do you have inside information? I would be unhappy being paid, what they are.

I don't know about Lerma but Guessand definitely has the hump. Dropped from the squad by Sage along with McNeil because he was not happy with what he saw at Man City. "I was not happy when they come on the pitch against Man City"

Love it Pierre. Drop those wastrels if they aren't giving it 100%

"Some times a player has to be shaked to ... regain their level"

Said it was only one game and now everyone excited.

And the follow up question about Guessand reaction to being omitted from the Europa League squad.

"Unhappy"

Hopefully we will see Guessand and McNeil with a fire lit under them against Middlesbrough. Showing the value of competition for places even to get the bench.

Players are prone to take advantage and a new manager has one chance to make a mark - at the beginning of his reign as an unknown quantity.

Delaney tells a story that Allardyce got the squad together, put up the teamsheet for his first game , and told the players that if those left out were unhappy to come and see him after the meeting ( implying they could leave if they didn't like his decision).
It's a challenge at a basic level to get the players to demonstrate in training/matches why they should be included.

Is this the time for squad rotation, or start with the same 11? My guess is Sage will keep the same defence to give them more playing time together and shake the rest of the positions about?

I’m glad I’m not the manager 😬

We urgently need to find out our best centre back formation. It seems high pressing wing backs are part of Sage’s method so that means three centre backs. I would choose Disasi, Minguez and Tomiyasu. And see how they perform as a unit. And give all our new signings a runout at some stage in the game.

I have concerns about both full backs pushing high at the same time.
It leaves huge spaces behind them and our centre backs don’t look comfortable when pulled wide to defend those spaces.
My preference would be for one to push forward at any given time so e,g if Khalaili is high up the field then Mitchell stays deeper on the other side so we are less vulnerable to the counter attack and have numbers are back.

There is an argument that this would defeat the objective of the system giving us a lopsided sided attack and negate the width that the wing back system is designed to provide.
For me, I want stop the flow of goals conceded.
We have conceded 8 goals in three games, and having rewatched the Fulham highlights it’s evident that we still gave them 3 chances to equalise after we went 3-2 ahead.

Makes sense to take a look at Disasi, Mingueza and Tomiyasu as the CBs. Impression is that they are stronger technically.

Chilwell at LWB and stick with Khalaili at RWB then perhaps Gozo can get some minutes later on or Ahanor can come on for Khalaili and Mingueza move to right wing back

Sage says Doucoure will definitely get some minutes. Hughes alongside him? Then McNeil, Guessand and Strand Larsen. Those three really have to start showing something as Mateta and Sarr will eventually understand their sulky strops are not going to help themselves let alone the team. Hopefully Osorio to get some game time.

Always a decent championship team Middlesbrough, there or there abouts at the end of the season, so if Sage plays a weak team, not that we know what our best team is, I think we’ll get beaten

Shame because it would be nice to win the league cup so we’ll have done the full set of what we could realistically win

Not confident for the Europa?

Agree that Middlesbrough are going to be tough
