Plight of Waspi Women.

Quite disgraceful that this issue has not been addressed and hopefully Mr.Flip flop, will make a fair and sensible decision to pay reasonable compensation very soon:

I have sympathy for many women who are in poor circumstances. I have less sympathy for the many women who are part of my generation that is the most affluent this country has seen.

In short compensation needs to be means tested.

I say this as someone who also got screwed although not as bad as these women.

Means testing doesn’t alter the facts. These women were short changed.
If anything it will delay payments and possibly reduce them for the poorest with the admin costs and equations to find a point at when not to pay. If this is means tested it will be the slippery slope to the OA pension being tested, then can you afford private health so no NHS etc. they already did the WFA with some being
As low as 5 quid over the threshold for the WFA.
If they wish to donate to charity or give it away it is up to the richer people getting the payment.

They got screwed, well most people do when a government raises taxes or changes policy. I'm sorry but I do not believe that these women simply did not know which is what they claim. It was widely advertise by all the media and the government says they did contact people.

It was shabby treatment, but why should middle class women get 10k from the taxpayer. The focus should be on the people who really did suffer.

I don’t disagree but if there is a figure calculated across the board then pay it out.
Middle class upper class or lower class they are owed the money.

My missus comes under this category, and although was reported, sod all anyone could do about it at the time, it's going to happen tough s***. Why should anyone be able to take away an entitlement with no consultation or debate. My missus worked hard and was robbed of seven years pension by someone putting a signature on a piece of agreed legislation to stop it.

My sister comes under this category - she's been unable to really do much about is as my brother in law is seriously ill and all of her time is taken caring for him. She was telling me she has to pay for respite care nurses to come too, on the NHS. All on a reduced pension. Con.

No Government will do right of its own Free will. It'll all come down to Cost/Benefit analysis taking into account likely court and admin costs, against settling before things get tasty.

this issue dates back to 1995 and supposedly would cost £36bn to 'correct' in full.

Not sure why you think it's Starmer's fault or his biggest priority.

Incidentally, say Labour agreed a 50% settlement, so c£18bn, and said income tax would increase by 2% to pay for it would you be happy??

How much would that raise ?

Looks like it's going to be a post office thing, if it's taken this long to get as far as they have and still not a lot of joy for most of them, god knows how long the missus will have to wait for some sort of outcome, hopefully before she pops her clogs !

It's a no from the government

In opposition Labour loudly supported the Waspi campaign and made all sorts of promises, in government.....

The issue that women "may" not have received individual letters has gone through the courts and has failed. There was widespread media reports and government announcements at the time.

There were never going to win on that specific legal point because it would be kicking a hornet's
nest. When any government raises taxes or cuts benefits they don't require that the people impacted confirm they have been notified. Certainly in the case of raising tax they just go ahead and do it and it's hard cheese if you didn't know.

The other issue that I have mentioned before is that many of these women are comfortably off so it was a strategic mistake to campaign for all women. They would have had a better argument if they had just focused on the poor.

Anyway I think this really is the end of it.

But we have found another £35m for Ukraine. We could also discuss the £billions going to foreign climate change projects. Blackhole, what black hole? Is the Labour motto “ anyone but the British”?

Another story that the Guardian didn't realise proves that there was no black hole. Quite hilarious.

2TK doesn’t want it to be a burden on the tax payer just after he gave 12 billion to the unions. What a t w a t this man really is.
Totally correct.
Not fair on the tax payer but quite happy to pay their Union pay masters, exactly what they want and apparently, has agreed to send £50 million to the terrorists who now run Syria!! The man is delusional.

Prominent Labour politicians bent over backwards to show support for the campaign for compensation before the election. Now they have betrayed these women.

That is all you need to know about the current government.

An independent ombudsman recommended compensation, and the government have ignored that recommendation. That is virtually unprecedented.
