Plight of Farmers.

Living where I do and where I have in several phases of my life I come into contact with farmers and have known a couple as good friends.

They don’t seem to regard farming as a job, but as a way of life. One I knew well made a fortune out of dairying, passed all his farms to his son yet still lived in a mansion as a multi millionaire. Another inherited from his Dad after years of actually running the farms. Yet another has no children, no wife and is still working at nearly 80 because he loves his animals.

So I don’t think there is a one size fits all solution and what the government has done seems a reasonable attempt at fairness to me. Family farms can be protected with forward planning and tax collected from those who do very well, just as in other industries.
I wonder how many of the animals he loved, he has sent to slaughter? 🤔

Seriously, wisbech raises some points in that it is by no mean a level industry.
In Sussex, i saw very little in the way of farming activities going on, yet there was farmland, a big farmhouse, one farm with a helicopter pad in its large garden and another farmer who drove a Mclaren F1. Some farmers were already selling land to developers, expanding villages into small towns.
I have seen no such agricultural luxuries as helicopters or sports cars in Wales. Farmers work long hours and generally have little social time or people interaction, except for delivery drivers and going to the farmers supplies shops/farmers auctions. If they do have sizable profits, then they aren't enjoying the benefits from them.
Except they now are following the Sussex model of selling land to developers. Growing population (due to immigration, not birthrates) and reductions in food production capacity.
Yeah, there's going to be problems in the near futures. But not our Governments problem. They'll be gone soon with ring-fenced finally salary pensions
That'll be for another Government to try and sort out. Or not.

The only farmers I'm acquainted with have been playing up again recently
Get yourself a tube of Preparation H - once it has shrunk the farmers to insignificance, it can be used lightly under the eyes to remove those bags that tell the tale of the night before.... but do wash your hands between application in the different parts......

Obviously putting mascara on the metric miles is where I was going wrong.
