Just saw Ndiaye score a brilliant goal for Everton where he beat 3 Sunderland players and tucked it in the corner.
No pass and move , but very efficient!

Ah but when is a direct run a dribble? I bring to your attention the brilliant goal by Van de Ven for the Spuds against Copenhagen...

For me it's not about being for or against this style of play.

It's all about who is doing it.

If you have an intelligent dibbler who has good instincts then he drags the defence out of position and if they pass at the right time can seriously increase the chance of a goal.

If you have Maradona or Messi then you obviously are going to trust their judgement on when to dibble and when to pass. Obviously there are levels below them where it's still an advantage for your team.

If you don't have that, and instead have the usual over ambitious headless chicken then of course you steer clear.

I haven’t seen the Van de Ven goal yet, but I know he’s a quick player who seems to pick up pace as he drives forward.
For me a dribbler is one who drops the shoulder, feints and swerves and uses clever footwork to wrong foot and unbalance defenders.
The ideal is to have both dribbler and pace merchant your team.

For me we were at our most exciting when we had Zaha and Bolassie together for a spell.

They were rarely both off their game at the same time so you could be pretty sure at least one of them would pose problems for the opposition.
Furthermore , they would often swap wings during the game to keep full backs guessing.
And on occasions the roles would be reversed with Bolassie demonstrating the clever footwork and Zaha the raw pace.
I’d have really liked to see that front 3 of Zaha, Bolassie and Murray together in the Premier League, but sadly we were denied the opportunity.

It will come back. History repeats itself.

Long throws have returned because people have forgotten how to defend against them, just how the game will evolve to a point where dribblers will be able to exploit it again.

I can't believe you've gone with Bolasie as the skilful/technical one and Zaha the athletic one! Surely the other way round!?

Obviously they both had skill and athleticism in abundance, but to my mind Bolasie was the powerhouse and Zaha the slightly more cultured.

You misunderstood me.
I'm saying exactly what you're saying but pointing out that on occasions the roles were reversed and Bolassie showed clever footwork (think Huddersfield, Liverpool) and Zaha the speed (think Burnley, Man City).
