Not even fighting, just over the top aggression. Players flying into eachother , pushing each other in the face etc. followed by “fight fight where ever you will be” from the crowd.
Can’t remember the last time.
Bet it’s regular in the lower leagues.
Remember boring Tuesday night games , not much going on, then ‘smash’ a naughty tackle and a 12 man brawl.
Thomas/ Gray v Hurlock / Briley. Wimbledon at plough lane the game before the cup final, was a f*cking war.
Miss them days.

W.W.E is the spin off.

You never, ever get players being aggressive to each other now. The game is so sanitised. I find it very noticeable that on the rare occasions when one player fouls another with any force, the team mates of the fouled player, if they are particularly incensed, will run over, but not too take issue with the aggressor, just to appeal to the ref. They never go directly to the opponent who has fouled their friend. Mind you, they are all friends now, cuddling each other in the tunnel before the game then again afterwards. No needle at all.

I think a big part of it is the culture of refereeing and VAR. Everything is a foul. As soon as there is contact the game gets stopped, so players firstly never go in hard and, secondly, there is never any chance for a grudge or little feud to develop between two players. You need refs to let a bit go for that to happen, and they won't.

Palace Brighton, when Henry Hughton broke Gerry Ryans leg was on a bleak Tuesday night if I remember right, that was sickening because it was a small mid 80’s crowd and you heard the crack and his screams echoing round the ground……I can’t remember if there was a brawl after it or not though

I remember in about 1970 Gerry Queen getting sent off for punching a Blackpool player. Many papers hinted at it but only The Mirror ran the headline "Queen in Brawl at Palace".

Not really a fight but the ZDS final was a bit tasty. That ugly thug Martin Keown trying to bully our forwards until Geoff Thomas busted his nose and made him look even worse! Happy days indeed…
