He is the grandson of Herbert Morrison,sohe has a trick or two up his sleeve.Herbert ruled the labour Party in London and the Glc ( then LCC) during the forties.A cabinet minister and Leader of the House of Commons.Herbert was well known for being a bit sharp.

It's going to be a trainwreck.

It's the usual poor decision making by the Starmer administration.......just bad for Britain.....but they never cared about that in the first place.

I am convinced the Starmer administration had very little say in it.

Which is the point.

Appointing Mandleson to that role is all about sending a message. Making it quite clear to the Trump administration that they have his measure. Mandleson is a politician who had to resign twice because of corruption. A man who was friends with Jeffrey Epstein.

You don't put people like that into perhaps the single most important Ambassadorial role unless you want to send a very direct message that you don't care. Perhaps the most interesting political appointment since Cameron was rushed into the Lords and made Foreign Secretary.

He is a fixer who knows something about a lot of people and won’t be scared to use it. He probably has his own “little black book”, or store of videos. Perhaps implicating Trump himself. He certainly has the media connections to leak them effectively.

Playing dirty is quite possibly our best chance of mitigating the impact of Trump’s threatened plans.

People keep on posting the picture of Mandleson with Epstein as though this is going to stop him being the US Ambassador. I suspect this picture is the reason he is being given the job...

It's amazing how people have short memories.

Mandelson was known as the Prince of Darkness because he along with Campbell was Blair's enforcer. There are plenty of people in the Labour Party who hate him and have not forgotten or forgiven.

He was continually being caught out over "his truth" so much so that Private Eye often had weekly stories about his latest shenanigans from his dubious person life to his dodgy business and political dealings.

I believe he was forced to resign from the cabinet 3? times that must be a record of sorts.

And this is the person that will be our main contact with our closest ally. One thing I will disagree with, Mandelson is no "moron" like an Abbott or Lammy. Being stupid I can forgive, Mandelson is a different kettle of fish he is a dark arts operator and knows exactly what he is doing.

Odds on him having to resign as Ambassador at some point?

Aren’t using dark arts exactly what is required when dealing with someone like Trump and those pulling his strings?
