Parish Out

The wheels have been coming off for quite some time. If there was one day and game where I thought "things aren't right" it was our first game in defence of the FA Cup. Our form tanked and if the Conference was a straight knock out competition we would have had nothing from a very poor season.
I'm sure there are those more informed as to what was really happening behind the scenes but the fallout from then has carried over to this season and with the team in the bottom 3 it will take some time to aright, if it is possible.

Either offer them new contracts - or at least have a conversation along the lines of we will get you sorted, but meantime you are Palace player so you give your best for the team.

Not as in Sarr’s case just sulking.
Both have been offered new contracts.

JP declined his offer and my guess is he leaves on a Free next summer.

Sarr was in talks about a new deal a couple of weeks ago.

Some of your critisism of Parish is justified and I agree with it, but there are some things that he can't control. Waving money at players that have other ideas is one of them.

Mate get that but that is his job for which he’s remunerated very well for - reportedly the 3rd highest paid Chairman in the league - yet we’re in the relegation zone.

As I said he needs to act decisively now and show he deserves the faith shown in him, earn his “corn” and restore some stability.

I will say that we're not going to hear anything on a Sunday. The day after Halloween.

Acting decisively is only good when you're making the right decisions ! And choose the right options at your disposal.

We're stuck with the players we have until January.

Then the transfer window opens and then, as things stand, we have Matt Hobbs pulling the strings. Heaven help us.

Parish could make a decision today and give the Media what they want - a manager sacking. When times are good the hair and nose are on tv, in the papers etc., but he clams up when times are bad.

Speculation on my part, but perhaps, just perhaps, he's reflecting on what he could have done better himself over the last few months.

The issue here is, he used to be personally involved in everything and we complained about that. Now he has people doing the football side of things, we're complaining about that. This might make him draw the conclusion to go all hands on again.

That was the post Freedman, pre Hobbs era I recall ?

Was Moody helping out at that time ??

Part of the secrets of successfully running a business is to try to get the best people you can around you.

I don't think Parish sees himself as a hands on quasi DOF, but it then comes back to the question of Hobbs - most of us think he's not up to it, I wonder what Parish's thinking is ?

More questions than answers, sorry !

Think all of us have lots of questions Mate.

All I know is the decisive action is required to get the wheels back on and that’s all on Parish.

Otherwise all the progress made over the last 13 seasons and in particular the last 2 will be for nothing.

Over to you Steve..!!

We did offer them new contracts. I am sure we also had conversations about their obligations. Do you really think we didn’t try and resolve it? I think the situation is a little more complex than just having a word. In Sarr’s case if he won’t sign a contract or play well what exactly is Parish supposed to do?

Yep… yesterday was a horror show. It could not have been worse if it had been Friday the 13th. We should get an Exorcist in to clear out the demons and let us know witch palace team turns up to get us out of this Nightmare on elm street. The play has been truly Insidious.

Spot on. And it’s funny people using this as a stick to beat Parish with when we have a very well documented example of him managing Zaha and keeping him happy and playing for all those years. It’s not like Parish doesn’t know how to play this game.

I have on more than a few occasions posted my support for SP, and I still believe that he is the right man for the job when compared to what we have had in our recent history. Also when you consider how poorly the likes of Spurs, Man U and Chelsea are run, I believe we are doing ok.
That said SP is in charge of the running of our club and I am concerned how far we have fallen off over the past two and a bit seasons. It was not that long ago when we had Olise, Eze,
Guehi, Lacroix in the team and we were beating all comers including 4-0 against ManU and 5-0 against Villa as some of the highlights.

Now in defence of SP we will always be a selling club, but so are all but a few clubs that have to comply with the various financial restraints imposed to keep the cartel at the top.
It also doesn’t help that players suddenly think they are bigger and better than the club, and then throw their toys out the pram.
People moan that we have wealthy owners so they should splash the cash, but we have spent money. We have just brought players that are simply not up to the level required. What is clearly a big problem is our poor recruitment over the past couple of years.

Now this is where I have to question SP what is going on, and who is responsible for this. I know we should not compare ourselves to others, but that is naive. You should always keep an eye on similar sized competitors (in all walks of business) and compare how you are doing in relation to them. So when you see Brentford, Bournemouth and the Weed consistently selling their best players, but already having better replacements lined up, you have to worry about what is going on with us.

I don’t think it is as simple as saying we lost Freedman, and replaced him with Moody then Hobbs whom both seem to not know what they are doing. Because I don’t believe that the decision to buy a player is simply down to one persons. There must be a whole team doing due diligence, so why do we keep getting it wrong of late?

Ultimately SP has to sign off any player purchase, and I am concerned that SP gets distracted when he is dealing with major infrastructure projects. He was very focused on the academy, and now the new stand. So I wonder if he has taken his eye off the ball, and what I mean by that is that we have been so poor with recruitment for a while, why has he not addressed the situation with the people that recommended the players we buy?

I believe we can still recover this season as there is time to do so. We just need to adapt to the players that we do have. (They’re not all bad) This may need a new manager to be more pragmatic, or Sage maybe able to change what he is doing. What is clear is that SP needs to get on top of this and worry about the here and now, and not worry about a new shiny stand that will likely be half empty in the Championship.

I understand the disappointment in how we're performing etc but we're back to the 'Beat Parish with a big stick' debate, Parish may be the mouthpiece but he's just a small cog in a larger assembly & unless everyone agrees regards additional financing & other major decisions is simply doesn't get done. That said, Lacey & Hobbs need to go before Sage.
