Pardew

Al's past his sell by date.

We had some good times with him as manager, but if anything Parish kept him on longer than he should have done.

i put that down to Pardew's status as a hero ex-Eagle player, south London boy, ex Glazier, and friend of the HF. I agree with you. Should have been sacked 6 months earlier.
Our performances were gash and the Newcastle fans had warned us about him.

Pardew. My least favourite Palace manager , of all time. He seemed to specialise in dissing our players, by name, in the post-match interview.

We always seemed to play very well. Looked good on the pitch. Never got slaughtered by a rugby score. Always within touching distance of success........and lost every feckin game by a gee hair.

That’s quite a call considering Mullery has been our manager😳

Rednapp & Pardew doing the punditry on Sky. The former was glowing with praise for all our achievements etc.....the Latter sounded predictably gloomy and pessimistic.

Dear mr Parish, please never let Pardew near our club management ever again.....not even if it was a 50:50 tie, for the job, between him and Greta Thunberg.

I was never convinced that anything good that happened with Pardew at the helm could be particularly credited to Pardew. Like he just go lucky a few times (at a few clubs). What's my basis for this? Not a lot. Perhaps a lack of consistency at any club, perhaps just total conjecture.

Greta Thunberg wading in with a Just Stop Oli t-shirt on...

We had George Burley, someone said Mullery, De Boer and plenty of others we've eradicated from our minds. Pardew is one of our better managers, hilariously enough.
When he took up the 'Reins' after 20 League games we were in a precarious 18th position. We ended that season in 10th place.
In the following season he took us to the FA Cup final and entertained us all with his gyrating hips after Puncheon scored !

We played some good football under pardew, always competitive even in our losing streaks, another manager let down by the board, 1 left back in the squad and when soure got injured we were always gonna struggle.

Pardew has a very nice house in Warlingham. He has done very well from failure as many managers do.

The best thing he did for us was to steer West Ham to a Play Off Final defeat in Cardiff. He does something at Palace I believe, but perhaps he should stick to adverts and punditry.

He got Reading promoted to Division 1.
W.Ham were promoted to the PL with him at the 'Reins'.
He took W.Ham to an FA Cup Final where they lost to Liverpool on penalties.
He guided us to an FA Cup Final.

Pardew ultimately had a rough ride at Newcastle, which was arguably the pinnacle of his career.

He is a nearly man. Likeable, but limited as a manager.

Pardew had better forwards available to him than we have now.
I would argue that we are in the bottom half of the table in terms of depth of forward strength and in the top half for defensive strength.
Hence a position around 10th is about right!

On the subject of Pardew I got off on the wrong foot with him many years ago at pre season training.
I had heard that we had signed a young fair haired midfield player, but I didn't know what he looked like.
I approached Pardew and asked him if he was Geoff Thomas.
He just said 'no' and looked perturbed that I hadn't recognised him ( he had just joined from Yeovil).

Maybe I’m imagining it but didn’t Pardew’s jobs all follow a similar trajectory. Great for 18 months then a slide into terrible form followed by dismissal? Clearly an impact manager who then got worked out or whose methods stopped working with the teams he was in charge of.

I am not going to leap to his defence as I already trashed him, but not many managers these days seem to have a variety of tactics for different occasions. I feel like most managers/teams get worked out. They might still win with their tactics because even a 'worked out system' requires an opponent being able to unpick it, but I feel like you could take a huge percentage of managers and know what their Plan A is and that they have no Plan B. I'm not entirely sure I know what Glasner's Plan B is, and everyone in the Prem knows his Plan A.

I think this is increasingly true. You rarely see managers change tactics or systems. OG is a great example. For me while modern football is undoubtedly quicker and technically better I find the reliance on players playing a role in a system has removed some of the joy and individual skill.
