Palace vs KuPS.....Finland

I think everyone is well aware that City, Arsenal and Chelsea make more money that Palace, and that Newcastle's owners have a few quid too.

A route of Liverpool away, Arsenal away, Chelsea 2 legs and then likely City is probably the hardest possible route. Could only be worse if we had drawn Everton away! That plus an FA Cup defence, a league campaign and a European effort means 16 outfield players and 10 games in the next 30 days if we beat Arsenal.

We knew there would be a crunch. Here it is. Something's going to give.
I was merely highlighting the financial disparity with actual amounts.
Our matchday revenue only accounted for about £14 Mill of that £189 Mill.

Take the Arsenal game next Tuesday.

They can field a front 3 of Saka, Gyorkes and Trossard.
Or if they feel like it Mandueke, Martinelli and Merino.
And if that doesn’t suit how about Nwaneri and Jesus with Havertz still to return?

If they want to rest Timber there is always Ben White, reserve Lewis Skelly instead of Calafiori.
An Arsenal reserve who is ahead of our own Mitchell in the England reckoning.
If Eze isn’t doing his stuff they can always use Odegard.
Then there is also the excellent Norgard who they can use if Rice or Zubimendi need a night off.

It will be funny if we beat them.

Interesting as Forest are below us. They don't spend do they.
Sure but would you want their owner over ours, genuinely? To be part of a MCO doing dodgy deals with Textor with a history of breaching financial rules, points deductions and alleged drug trafficking/ match fixing?

I wouldn’t trust Maranakis as far as I could throw him and genuinely wouldn’t want him as owner so we could spend £200 million on players who haven’t done particularly well or helped them to get less than 11 places below us in the league 🤷‍♂️

back to the game , I looked at the table and theres at least 15 different results that could happen with a palace win lol , but we must win ideally by 3 again at least , then 22 games later we are playing in the knock outs well it feels like it

Finland. The Finnish. One should never underestimate the enemy. Even when you have an insurmountable logistical advantage.

Josef Stalin wanted to do a little dress-rehearsal for WWII against Hitler. So he did a small training exercise. The massive Red Army invaded Finland. And got their ass kicked. Whenever the Soviets were trying to organise a BBQ or use their camping-toilet ....some invisible fecker on ski's would appear from nowhere and petrol bomb them. And he would disappear as quickly. The Reds complaining that the Finns didnt fight fair.

The Finnish have already given us a financial black-eye. In the form of the useless git below.

......beware of the apparent easy game.

the Finnish are a clever bunch.

Indeed. One thing we can say about KuPS.........they're no mugs.

I'll get my KoAT...

🙂

This is a must win. We should field a second team against Leeds. We can lose there and it won't ruin our season. The Arsenal game seems like a game we can't win, but at least the players we do have will be fresher.
The irony is that had we not won the FA Cup, we could be flying this season. However, our first serious silverware is irreplaceable in terms of our history.

Absolutely.
It is not in our interest to add to our fixture schedule by competing in play-offs.
Given that we will not be fielding our strongest team, I am a tad concerned about our prospects in this game.

If you had to lose (throw) one of the next 3 games then sadly Leeds makes the most sense.

Today is vital and the rest pattern to Arsenal gives us the best chance to proceed in the cup.

A poor performance tonight from our strongest 11 tonight could derail an excellent season so far.

The Leeds game is so tertiary in context that I wouldn't care if we played Remi Matthews in midfield and gave Glasner himself a run-out in attack.

Lose it, and so what? We need to win tonight, avoid the ECL playoffs, and hopefully get past a (again hopefully) second-strength Arsenal.

Win tonight - Draw at Leeds then loose at Arsenal would be both a realistic and reasonable outcome.

squeaky bum time. although, not really. Personally, I'm quite relaxed

Glasner knows what he's doing, and if it doesn't fall right on the night, we go again the next game.

Depends what people want to achieve this year. For me, it's get back into Europe so that we can hang onto players and the manager more easily. There's four routes to that:
  • Win the Carabao Cup. We likely have to do Arsenal away, Chelsea 2 legs, City netural. So far this season those fixtures are p3, 0 goals scored, 1 point. It's now the toughest route.
  • Win the FA Cup. Can't realistically do a good job of it if focusing on any more than 1 other thing. Can be screwed by 1 bad draw. Probably the 2nd hardest.
  • Top 7ish in the league. Doable, but 10% of the season takes place between 28th Dec and 7th Jan, against 3 European sides, so we need to be fresh for it. 8 days off between Leeds and the start of those games would be very valuable. Wherever we finish, it's still £2.5m ish a place. Last year we missed out on about £10m by 3 points. If we do get in, it will be tight.
  • Win the Conference League. Doable, but it'll come down to one off games from March onwards. Can't plan for that now.
For me, the Carabao Cup gets dropped now. The only scenario where we're screwed is being in the knockouts and beating Arsenal. That would give us 4 extra games that need to be full strength. Beat Arsenal and we harm all 3 other objectives for likely no gain because Chelsea and City are a huge hurdle.

If we want a chance of making Europe through the league, I don't think we can throw any league game. The idea that we would have qualified for Europe with a >3 point margin whilst also fighting on multiple fronts feels a big stretch.

For me, a near-full strength team has to go to Leeds. If we end up in the knockouts, it's frustrating but so be it - we should get through and we have a chance to strengthen in Jan. Whatever team we put out tonight is good enough to win if the senior players turn up.

I think Palace will do enough to progress straight to the next round. (with other results going our way)
I'll be listening to radio comms

Looking at the fixtures, both Mainz and Samsunspor can't win as they play each other. Even a draw will maybe not be good enough for then in all likelihood. But then there are a few teams on 9 with us, but we have just about the best goal difference. We could do with winning and scoring 3+. Looking at Kups however, they like to be defensive and frustrate. Play long balls and set pieces.

This evening's game has washout written all over it. The weather has been abysmal all day and doesn't look like letting up. Could be a game of long ball hoofing...

Completely disagree. Could not give a rats a** about the carabao cup. Arsenal or no Arsenal. For me, Leeds is a must win game. A game we are expected to win and one that (at least) maintains our place in the league, giving a better chance of qualifying for Europe via the league... and with another 4 Games in 9 days coming up, we need the points in the league.
