Palace team vs SC Freiburg

firstly, I didn't.. the comment was an example of why someone would be upset with the performance... not the result.

A result can not go our way, but you want to see passion, ideas, giving it a go.. which evidently was missing for that game.
Hence my reply of IF you went, your post was all about the score. If the same happens in an away Europa league game happens then I'd be pissed,

We have not won at Everton in our last 12 games against them.
Our last win at Everton was back in September 2014.
Willo, I wish to be pedantic. We beat them 4-0 in the FA Cup quarter final under Patrick Vieira, but I guess you are talking about league fixtures ! Sadly I am not predicting the same scoreline this time.

Finally watched the highlights so can comment (to the extent highlights allow).

The stats had us with all the ball but none of the effort. We have spent years being the other team in that scenario and were more than happy. That we may now be the team who comes off at the end exhausted but with nothing to show...

We were mid block under Glasner. Sage is attempting a higher block. The change showed. With the defenders pressed against the centre line, once we lost possession in midfield all it took was a fleet of foot attacker and a through ball and it was one-on-one. Multiple times. We were fortunate they did not score more. Sage has said he will revert to what the players are more comfortable with and introduce his system over time. Fingers crossed.

Conceding any goal from a corner at our level is embarrassing. Do we need to invest in a coach who does nothing but drill corner and other dead ball defence? If we have them, need they be replaced?

I think we hired a set piece coach with Sage.

Needs time to bed in?
The most likely thing is not having the full units to coach. Set pieces in general are defensive and attacking units. If you consider it, a fair few of ours have only just come back. Other essentials are the takers and the goalie. Henderson just back, we've only just bought McNeil, and I really couldn't say we had the correct takers even being used last season.
Set pieces are probably being worked on right now would be my guess. Have no idea if Henderson's fit.

Why do you want them to show passion in a friendly name of the game is don't get injured in friendlys , and if people go to the friendlys in over country's , its not for the match more like tick list of grounds you have been to , and a holiday

If this is the way he wants to play our back line need to sharpen up 100%. Push up to far and it needs a sweeper, in our shape that’s not on. I know it was early and a weakened squad but even Bromley made hay against this higher block.

Mainly because we're slow and lack lustre. We must have the slowest midfield in the division. And I believe Lacroix was our fastest centre back by some distance.

We could get David Wright back, Burley got him in as a defender, but Paul Hart used him as a defensive mid and I'm sure he was a sweeper under Doogie, he's in the backroom staff at Norwich now and he must be well into his forties, but could be worth a shout, and he'd be free.

They are professions and surely should have a winning mentality. Is there really such thing as a 'friendly'? Again, why is it just 'minutes' for palace? Freiburg got their minutes and showed a winning mentality.

So you would have been happy if they showed passion and got a serous injury which put them out best part of the season

Why would passion instantly mean injury? How frail are these so called professionals?
So what was Freiburg's mindset?
We have seen players in warm ups get injured they are trained like athletes not footballers now , I was fit in my day and could run forever , but with age injurys happens , especially with with muscles , bet if you asked them to run 10 mile they couldn't do it

Regardless of our performance, or lack of. Freiburg, obviously did not have the worry of injury top of their priorities. Constantly pressing and competitive, even in the last last 10 minutes they shut us down coming in from behind not allowing time on the ball . Impressive warm up for them, we thought it was a friendly , I hope.

My idea of this, if we win a few pre season friendlies we are top 5 and if we lose a few we are doom and gloom.

My take on it is that friendlies doesn't matter the slighest. Or we would really be safe already since we beat Fulham in a friendly. I don't think Fulham will finish lower then 18th. So if we are better then them we are already staying up.
