Palace team vs SC Freiburg

We are so disjointed it's quite alarming. I know we have to give everyone time to settle in but the season looks like it's starting way too early for us.

FT 2-0 defeat but generally poor performance more concerning

Last five minutes the front trio of Nketiah, Franca and Guessand looked a bit more lively

Maybe they will stay on for the 30 minute match that follows?
 
I don't want to be over critical as it's only a warm up game but to be honest we looked poor all over the park. Hopefully this will lead to a couple of new signings as this squad will struggle in my opinion.
 
We don't look ready for the league. Main thing- poor defence. Need to be closer together as a unit. Need to work on set pieces desperately. And you get the feeling Everton will bully us at set pieces right now.
Up front, not enough pace to close down as a unit, or run beyond. Stems also from a midfield lack of pace with no one able to drive forward from midfield. Hence us linked to physical box to box midfielders. We really need one. The other option is to move the ball much quicker, which you feel only really Wharton can do.
Sarr is by far our biggest goal threat from simply having pace and a bit of drive.
 
The usual caveats about not reading too much into.a pre-season game, but thereagain we are only a week away from the season proper starting.
My takeaways
- we conceded another soft goal from a corner (Moyes will be licking his lips if watching)
- BTP raised a point about where McNeil fits into the system employed where the wing backs provide the width.
This was borne out in the game where McNeil was not in a crossing position once. He was tucked in with Mitchell providing the crosses from out wide.
In time hopefully McNeil will get into crossing positions
- I don't know if it was just today ( in Mateta's absence) , but Sage appears to see Guessand in a central role
 
Can never take to much from pre season games ,but well beaten here. It may have been a friendly but Freiburg, a good side anyway played to win. It didnt look like Palace did, if they did they left some serious question marks. No cutting edge, and a defence that gave away two appalling goals, getting away with one or two others, stood out . A lazy performance can be forgiven preseason but that back three are a worry.
