Palace Summer 2026 transfers?

Apparently according to threads. We’re in Europe and in London - surely more appealing than playing for Forest..!!
And £16.2M for Nije ..??

For me the priority is at the back, and it is a serious problem as things stand. We need to use either the loan market, free agents, or spend what little we have to address this. We need at least one, probably two senior, proven central defenders who are battle-hardened and ready. They don't have to be world-beaters.

We simply cannot go into the season with a back three of Canvot, Riad, and Richards. Though Canvot and Riad both showed some promise and we probably all expect big things of the former, neither has shown themselves able to produce over a long season in the premier league. In Riad's case, doubts remain over his fitness. Richards is good and solid, but is he good enough to play in the central/sweeper role? I have no strong reason to think so. It will be critical to have a very good player in that role to cover the inexperienced and inconsistent players we seem likely to use. Plus, what if one or two get injured? All our cover options would be round pegs in a square hole.

I would certainly take a punt on Tomiyasu, unless the medical shows a total horror show. I would also try and get Disasi, whether on loan or permanently even if the price is steep. I'd even look at the likes of Adam Webster. Perhaps we find a new Andy Linighan type, a bit like when West Ham bought Craig Dawson for about a fiver. All their fans went mad but he was brilliant for them.

We are not in a strong position to be fussy now. Not every signing will be perfect in terms of age, sell on value, status etc.

I was listening on talksport during the week to the peterborough chairman and he was saying a lot of clubs doing business late because they don't want to pay players salary over the summer months. And a lot of free agents still get their salary paid during summer by their previous club untill they find a new club.

It would certainly fit in to why we generally do our business late.

I'll see if I can find the clip on YouTube to share.
I doubt free agents are being paid as by definition no longer under contract

Apparently there is a rule that once a contract ends for the first few months the club still have to pay wages untill they find a new club or the month or two expires.

I could be wrong.

No.

There is nothing in a contract which states after leave they continue to receive. (Those terms would only be if a termination was agreed not an expired contract)

What it might be is say the contract ends 30 June they get final payment from the club 30 July including any bonus etc they was owed.

In terms of forward planning, it would seem prudent to add a first team ready midfielder either in this window or January.

Not many expect Wharton to be with us next season and Kamada and Lerma only have 1 year remaining.
Hughes will be another year older and there have to be doubts over the durability Doucoure's return.

We may need to add a couple of midfielders

...which is presumably why we've been linked with Camara and purportedly made a now rejected offer of 50m euros. In other words, it seems we are working on the problem you raise.

I mentioned this last season. Well it's good to see Kamada sign for another season, but aside from Wharton the rest are Championship quality, and of course there's Doucoure who will need careful management. That said it's good to see the club looking around with just 2 weeks until the new season kicks off.

Not sure what, if anything, you were implying with this comment. We don't need to be bringing in midfielders to start the season only to be ready to be given games as the season progresses so as to be ready when we inevitably lose Wharton. As for kamada, should his mate Tomiyasu work out this season and the club exercise the option to extend, might he decide to stay as well if the club still wanted him?
