I would certainly take a punt on Tomiyasu, unless the medical shows a total horror show. I would also try and get Disasi, whether on loan or permanently even if the price is steep. I'd even look at the likes of Adam Webster. Perhaps we find a new Andy Linighan type, a bit like when West Ham bought Craig Dawson for about a fiver. All their fans went mad but he was brilliant for them.

We are not in a strong position to be fussy now. Not every signing will be perfect in terms of age, sell on value, status etc.

Sounds perfect for us, then!

I wasn't advocating signing Webster in particular, I was just saying that I hope we are not fixated on finding players of the right 'profile' who may have lots of development potential but may not be good enough right now.

I think we need to focus on putting together a stronger core of battle-ready experience even at the cost of sell on value, or we may be in big trouble.
 
They key to our Summer transfer window is not so much who we sign as such, but how successful we are in retaining our crown jewels such as Henderson, Munoz, Wharton, Sarr JP and others. Keeping Kamada for another year is great and retaining Lerma also who is valuable squad player.

I know others will disagree but I understand why the club are lookng for freebies after spending £80m in Jan. If you can get someone for free or cheap who is good, why spend £50m buyng someone who might not be much better?

I like the fact the club are offloading a couple of fringe players to get some cash in. We have made a couple of expensive mistakes in the transfer market, it would be nice if a club could take them at least one of them off our hands too.

I agree about the importance of retaining our key players.

From the speculation in recent days it looks as if our efforts are geared to replacing departing defenders Lacroix, Clyne and Imray.
The focus seems to be less on adding attacking players, but this could change if one or two of our current attackers depart too.
 
I was listening on talksport during the week to the peterborough chairman and he was saying a lot of clubs doing business late because they don't want to pay players salary over the summer months. And a lot of free agents still get their salary paid during summer by their previous club untill they find a new club.

It would certainly fit in to why we generally do our business late.

I'll see if I can find the clip on YouTube to share.

For lower league clubs where money is very tight I get this. Utterly ridiculous if any PL clubs have this policy. If you want a player snap him before somebody else decides to.

Can't see this, PL wages are higher, the difference between buying at the opening of the window and the closing will be a saving in the region of half a million. Not exactly small change. Aside from the 'big six', most clubs will take this into consideration.

So for the sake of 500,000 you could lose your target to another club? That's not very good business either.

Now if you know that the player is definitely coming then fair enough. But how often do they change their minds.

As I said, for most teams it's a consideration. Even Arsenal waited till the end of August to buy Eze and saved a bit under £2m. It's not the exclusive reason, but part of a whole number that would ultimately make a good business decision.

Possibly a part of the issue but I suspect there are more important ones.
