I did wonder where we were after the Johnson and JSL deals in Jan.

Although we haven't breached PSR (or the new SCR - Squad Cost Ratio) we don't have too much head room left. Whilst we don't need to sell Mateta or Wharton, it does seemingly impact our ability to bring in new players.

I think we are in a situation where we need to sell to buy. Therefore, it seem that we will surely see a few players out the door over the summer.

Lacroix
Mateta
Nketiah (hopefully)
Devenny (looks like he is on his way).
Rak-Sakyi
Esse (possibly)
Franca (seems to going on loan again)

If the first 5 on that list can be sold for good prices, that should enable new players to come in. Maybe some deals can be done with an obligation to buy, so cost doesn't appear until the following year's figures.

Makes the signings seem even worse now.

Overspent massively on relatively poor replacements for the the players they're supposed to come in to replace. In order to invest in the squad, which is massively needed, we will need to sell a couple of our best players to compensate for the overspend. The prices seemed mad at the time, now they're just beginning to look plain stupid. Awful planning.

I think to many people are to quick to right of JSL, Pino and Johnson, i think Larsen will become a top Premier league player, like Mateta wasn't and now is, Pino is a good player, and will improve, hopefully Sage can get Johnson back to the level he was a couple of years ago, fingers crossed, Nketiah and Mateta are the ones IMO, we need to move out.

I thought we got a good season out of Pino? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Took a little while to adapt here and there but overall a good first season.

In my opinion:
1) Larsen will not ‘become a top Premier league player’. His first touch is poor and he’s easily bullied. Can’t see how you can coach that out of him. May prove to be adequate if overpriced.
2) Agree Pino is a good player with the potential to be very good.
3) Johnson is a basket case. Was never any good a couple of years ago as you claim. My Forest mate couldn’t believe the fee they got from Spurs. At Spurs the fans couldn’t stand him.Scoring some far post tap ins doesn’t make up for no control, poor passing and no ability to beat a man. He’s the player we should be trying to get rid off even if we only get back half the money.
4) Nketiah. There is a player in there somewhere but always injured. Sell for the right money.
5) Mateta. Give him a bit more money and keep if he will sign a new contract. Can you imagine a forward line of Larsen and an injured Nketiah?

Really, we are Palace, based in Wigan & clickbait on every EPL club, if you believe them, then I feel sorry for you. They only clickbait every other clickbait site & not very well.

I had cross checked it against this website as well.

Does appear to be truth in it.

Agree with this.

I haven't seen many people writing off Pino. He's had a very promising first season considering he's come into a new league.

With JSL and Johnson I don't think it's necessarily people writing them off as awful players. Just ones that certainly don't justify an outlay of 90m. Their contribution since their arrival has been minimal and they don't have the excuse of "getting used to a new league". Obviously as fans we want them to succeed but on current showing there's not much evidence to make us think they won't be costly errors.

I agree with most of what you say, except JSL. the goal he scored against Shaktar shows he IMO has got the talent, when we payed 48m for him, JF Hasslebank said Palace are paying the money not for what he is, but what he will become, lets hope he is right and it is the season coming up, i think IMO if we can sell Mateta and somehow move on Nketiah, and bring in Emegha from Chelsea with a loan with option to buy it is a step forward, hopefully.

I actually think the goal against Shaktar his first touch was poor but luckily it wasn’t closed down and he scored. Not sure he would have had that chance against Prem defenders. Might be a bit harsh but that the way I saw it.

Thanks very much for this. What a fascinating article. Or at least, the explanation provided by the guest within is fascinating. The speaker states openly that he is limited to a best reasonable estimate, but that it is a good ballpark figure. More to the point, he explains the various elements of the calculation very well.

I doubt it's any great surprise to learn that we need to sell if we want to spend significantly this summer, having shelled out so much last season. It also won't surprise many to learn that we can't afford the investment in Larsen, Johnson, Pino, and Nketiah to fail. We must either get some decent money in for them or get some decent performances out of them.

I think the OP should be pinned to the board, and that AI should be deployed to send it to each and every poster who moans about Parish being tight, the club lacking ambition, FFP not mattering, the Americans needing to put their hands in their pockets, etc and so on.

This is the reality. Look at Newcastle having to sell to comply, despite having the richest owners in the world, who are desperate to spend enough to sportswash their reputation.

The sums dictate.

Very harsh how many players look like they have scored a good goal but was lucky with a bounce etc , he reacted quicker than the others
