Palace Brighton

Brighton fan here. I'm not here for trolling or wind-up, just a genuine question. What happened to the Palace conveyor belt of talent from your youth team. I read somewhere that South London produces more footballing talent than anywhere else in Europe incl. North Paris suburbs. Is it down to Chelsea and Arsenal encroaching on your catchment area or lack of investment from your Board? Honestly, I ask that as a genuine question because if there's anything that will take Palace to the next level, it's your embarrassment of riches within your own borders.

Being nicked by our neighbours before they sign first pro contracts.
Jesse Derry went to Chelsea for example. Now on loan at Sporting Lisbon. Also 2 15/16 year olds nicked by Arsenal in the Summer.
Derry offered silly money. Chelsea’s ‘creative accounting’ model frees up loads of dosh.

This is a very good point. I wish that Parish would take notice. That said, when was our last home grown talent that broke into the first team? Was it Zaha? Mitchell came from Brentford.

This is true.
It's a myth about our continual roll of talent emerging into our first team.
As you say Mitchell wasn't ours , so you're looking at the likes of Zaha, AWB and Clyne which isn't a lot to show over a fairly lengthy period.
The exceptional potential we may develop is poached by the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal.
We are also less likely to take the risk of playing youngsters in the Premier League than when we were when in the Championship so it's more difficult to make the breakthrough with us even if they do ok on loan elsewhere.

I know the father of a Chelsea youth player, it requires a lot of energy and patience ferrying the kids around as they are too young to drive themselves. Maybe as an extra fillip, Palace could offer to do that. Plus, money is a big motivator, why not match what Chelsea and Arsenal offer knowing that we will be able to sell on a number of players that will more than pay for the project. Look at Real Madrid, hardly any of their academy actually play for their first team of galacticos, but they make a fortune selling them on to ‘lesser’ clubs. I think Fulham bought two this summer.

Our so called young talent ends up going to Wrexham and Derby for £5 million each!! The real talent ends up at the bigger clubs before we get a sniff

A more proactive approach could be constructive. The long hours travelling to Cobham was hard for the parent I mentioned. Travelling from Eastbourne every day there and back. Parents, who decide, like a nice package and one of the attractive things could be the proximity of the training facilities. Plus, let’s face it Eze can’t get into the Arsenal side. Young players at least have half a chance with Palace.

Striker Gonzalo Garcia who cost an initial £34 Mill. There are add-ons and sell-on/buy-back clauses.
Midfielder Manuel Angel who cost £3 Mill.
Both signed by Alvaro Arbeloa who was previously Real Madrid manager.
