Pakistan and India threatening war.

sorry mate. I beg to disagree. 300 years of history plus the clusterfv.ck the Brits did to India/Pakistan in 1947. A bit like France's Empire coming back to bite it in the ass.

The India/Pakistan mess has nothing to do with Poland, Latvia, Ireland.........and if they get a whiff of it then its an injustice. History has shown ethnic divisions to be a powder-keg. Could England ever do a Yugoslavia ? i hope not. But if India & Pakistan start over there, we are already seeing the infection going to a street near you.

What Britain did in the 40s has got nothing to do with me. I'm sick of foreign conflicts getting played out in this country, using up police resources and often committing violence and vandalism.

The consequences of the second world war meant that we couldn't afford our empire anymore (oh the irony). We couldn't even properly feed ourselves till the late fifties but I can't be bothered to focus on that.

What I do what to push back on is this cultural take that the 'Brits' are to blame for what happened in 47 in the sub continent. I see this time and time again, blaming the British for what others choose to do.....We are blamed for colonialism and then we are blamed for what others do when we don't do colonialism.

I'm sorry, but we weren't the ones who insisted on separate nation states.....We weren't the ones who forced out millions of people from their homes. We weren't the ones killing their neighbours.

This was an internal matter between two groups who hated each other and who were finally given the freedom to do something about it.

The only reason it hadn't happened was because we were running the place for centuries. But once WW2 happened we had to leave and the left got their way and reality was the consequence.

The British are not to blame......and by the way, there were plenty of Irish in our armies, because this 'Brits' stuff as if this constant idea that the Irish (of which I also share blood) have no part in is a black and white nonsense.

i take your point and broadly agree with you Eagle. Blaming the Brits for 1947 genocides is a bit like blaming a DJ for a brawl at a nightclub. There has been a longstanding standoff between Muslim and Hindu. Akin to Muslim and Jew. Or Muslim and Byzantine Christian.

History casts a long shadow. My question to the leaders of Pakistan & India contemplating a War......"what would you get if you won ?" It's not just Croydon schoolkids who get violent for some abstract notion of 'respect'. In war, there are no winners.

as a DJ, the Brits do seem to have officiated over very many brawls. Israel/Palestine, India/Pakistan, East & West Belfast, etc etc......

On a personal level, i will note that Indian-Hindu's have been some of the nicest work-colleagues i have ever had the pleasure of working with.

The winners will be the ones that move over to Britain and continue fighting, whilst posing as refugees.
