Our strikers

As has already been mentioned in the Mateta thread, Villa have made contact about signing JPM.

This made me look at our striking options for the first team. Look at the value (not I expect what anybody would pay) but the on paper valuations.
Eddie. JPM. Strand Larson and I guess you could say Sarr.

Now the best 2 out of those currently is JPM and Sarr. Both want away, well we know for sure JPM does and can only assume no smoke without fire for Sarr.

This should be no problem and Eddie and Larson should be giving a full go in that position. Eddie if fit should be the one as he is ‘Apparently’ the most natural finisher we have (I once read an article when he was a gooner that he was the closest thing Arsenal had to a new Ian Wright).

So for me, the club is better with JPM and Sarr but if they want out, f*** them both off and start using what we have. Let them prove there worth. If that is not the case and they are not up to the task then whoever sanctioned these moves to purchase Eddie and Larson needs to lose there job because we spend no small amount on these 2 and if they are no use and we need another striker then that person is s*** at there job and should pay the price for that. We are not talking about prospects here, for us that was major money spent.

If we do use them then we have got to play to the strengths, Eddie needs wharton slipping passes through quickly which is exactly what he is good at and Larson need wingers getting the ball in quickly with a left winger on the left and a right winger on the right so the ball can go in early. I seem to remember this working quite well back in 91 for a certain duo being fed by Salako and Mcgoldrick. It’s not rocket science.

Nketiah has never shown he has what it takes to be a regular Premier League goal scorer. He also struggles to hold the ball up. JSL hasn’t exactly set the world on fire but he has to be the first cab off the rank if JPM and Sarr go

what you guys have replied answers the questions I already knew the answers to. So the real question is who the f*** sanctioned these purchases at that crazy price.

We would be better off taking a punt on a couple of good lower league strikers or youngsters if JPM and Sarr are off and Hobbs needs to go because he is a disaster in my humble opinion.

To provide a bit of balance to this open and closed question.

Nketiah, can score at this level. He's going to struggle to play that target man role. But he's pretty good on the ground, pretty fast and can score. The game at the weekend showed that he can add value, on that showing he's clearly not useless. Maybe playing the 10's wider, as well as looking to go over the top more will help him. Wharton looked to play that ball over the top to him a couple of times.

What has really hampered him at Palace is injuries. Everything he looks like finding some form, he gets injured.

JSL also has the potential to be up for the job. He's scored a couple already for us. More than JP had as this point. He's provided some tidy finishes, and historically he's always scored. He's clearly not as good as JP at holding up and charging around. But I do think he would ahve scored one of JPs chances at the weekend.

Ultimately, like so often, its being viewed in quite a binary way. They are either good enough or sh1t. They aren't chumps and have have ability. Its a case of Sage finding a way to make the system work.

But given the last couple of days I'd much rather back a couple of players that want to be here.

Hoping young Gonzo and Franca have shooting boots because Larsen and Nketiah are not the sharpest if we do lose Mateta and Sarr. If they go get Wilf in on a temporary contract - he's lost his pace but he is a proven scorer. (cue for cries of horror from the assembled ranks - but can you suggest better at a reasonable price?) (Larsen and Johnson were NOT good buys)

I still say Johnson on paper wasn't a risk , and his goals was well taken , sadly something went wrong under Frank's rest is history , Larsen not so sure yet , so buying a player isn't easy
