Our present squad

I was at the England U21 game last night. Esse came off the bench around the hour mark, scored a great header and could have had a hat-trick. He seemed to really enjoy the goal and properly celebrated. He largely clung to the left wing and chased back to support the defence. If we can get his confidence back then I still think he can be a useful asset for us. The key will be a coach who can help him with his positioning. A bit like JRS, I'm not always convinced he knows the best place to be.

What will be the makeup of our team on the first day of next season?

There will be a new manager, Kamada is going together with possibly Mateta and Lerma and then there is speculation on Munoz, Wharton, Lacroix and Sarr.
Doesn't mean that they will all go, but it looks like being very much a summer of transition.

Didn't we do this last time with Wharton?
In my mind, we could really do with being more strong on players with injuries going on international duty. I have to say my alliegance lays far more with club than country.
I'm always reminded of how Ferguson would deal with it. He was a bit extreme perhaps but I suspect you know what I mean.

As I understand it there is no obligation for clubs to release players for friendlies only Uefa / Fifa competitions. However, if clubs refuse players permission, especially in the lead up to an international competition, this may lead to the player becoming unsettled and wanting a move. Palace tend to avoid this situation and let them go as there enough other factors to worry about.

This is my understanding too. I think an issue here are the new competitions. Nations League etc.

Of course, teams at the top of the tree - I'm looking at you Arsenal - can withdraw players without much concern. Upping Wharton's value would benefit both the player and club. Unfortunately, he hasn't particularly impressed and returned injured

The nations league was supposed to replace meaningless friendlies, now it’s just meaningless nations league

With the two debacles we’ve just had they might as well play friendlies at the training ground behind closed doors……but then the cynic that I am, this wouldn’t sell the new shirts or off load the mugs who go to watch these training sessions of their hard earned

Sweden would think otherwise ref meaningless and if it was us going to the USA for the WC via the nations league we would be more than happy with it. The same chance will be included for the euros in two years I would think.

Uche: “Your dedication and enthusiasm mean a lot and I hope to make you proud whenever I do get the chance to play but I know maybe it won’t happen again because the coach doesn’t like me.”

Nevertheless, thank you for always being there and cheering us on. I love you guys.”

Good luck 👍 I think he just needed a run of games and a bit of love

If circumstances were different then Uche would be a no-brainer of a signing. He has lots of raw ingredients, is still young, and is not so expensive that it would sink us if he didn't make it.

Thing is, we have committed very large sums to Nketiah, Larsen, and Johnson, all of whom were supposedly 'proven' but none of whom have yet done as well as required (though Larsen is doing OK). We couldn't possibly hope to sell any of them at the moment, at least not for anything close to what we paid, so they will stay and we simply must get a tune out of them. They must play, at least at the outset.

We have also spent good money on Pino, who is starting to look a tiny bit brighter, but that's probably just because he has been so bad that when he does anything good we all get excited. We have yet to recoup anything on Franca and probably won't. Esse has gone on loan to get games but yet the jury remains out. That's a lot of money spent already on 'unproven but exciting prospects'. If the new manager thinks to look down the back of the sofa he might find Rak-Sakyi, who remains under contract with us and is perhaps the best our academy has produced in recent years. That's four players who might very loosely be described as possessing potential, and about £50m in fees spent. Will we just write them all off? Surely at least one or two must be part of the first team squad next year?

Sarr is our best player and must be a fixture in the XI. We are presuming that Mateta will be sold, but he's already failed one medical so who is to say that he won't be here next year, even if nobody involved wants that?

I just can't see a space either in the squad or the balance sheet for an outside bet like Uche. Much the same is true of Guessand, who has shown flashes of exciting play but only in amongst long periods of dross.

There was an article suggesting Uche might be being sent back with a view to buying him for a considerablely lower fee because Getafe are skint and need a fee for him. More likely he was brought in as emergency cover and it's thought there are better/cheaper options.
Bit of a shame and difficult for him because from his few appearances he might have something about him but for £18 m he needed to show more than that.

After his insta posts he might not want to come back.
But provided Glasner leaves, there is a chance
