Omeprazole warning

Doctors prescribe this for a lot longer. Even for babies.

I've got Barretts, been on PPI's for last 23 years & Esomeprazole for most of that time. On the very rare occasion I might get a duff tablet & end up crippled 2/3am with bad reflux & having to knock back a pint or 2 of Milk.

Long-term use of PPI's has been linked to a bunch of nasty increased health risks for a while now. I've got GERD and was on a high dose of esomepazole for at least 5 years. The more I looked into PPI's the more I wanted off them.

I gave Famotidine a go which works differently to PPI's with far less associated risks and luckily for me it works just as effectively (if not better) than esomeprazole. I've been taking it for 2 years now and haven't touched a PPI since. Worth giving it a go if you haven't tried it before.

Been on it for years. I keep reading these stories but no one has an alternative so until they do I am stuck on it.

Me too. Read a few years ago that studies said that long term use can cause brittle bones but since then read other reports saying that it's not true and that they are safe.
