Nketiah?

Many of us said that when we signed him, as JP is almost undroppable. My point was that he has not been given a decent run of games to start and get used to playing with the first XI. I'm not saying he is going to be great, but it's too early to write him off, especially as, unlike Eduoard, he actually puts some effort in.
His attitude is one of his strengths. Certainly better than Edouard’s. On the other hand Edouard scored more league goals last season than Nketiah ever has

I know the early miss against Ipswich is fresh in everyone’s mind when he did get a start, but can you say he’s really had the chance to prove it so far? Coming on as sub for a few minutes here and there and not getting a run in the team has ruined many a good striker, they start to snatch at chances and confidence gets low.
I just think looking at him when he did score for Arsenal and the handful of goals he has got for us, given a run in the team he’ll score more than he misses. But as I said that run of games won’t happen all the time we’ve got JP.

That's the nature of being a back-up though... you have to take your chances as they come, and so far Nketiah hasn't. The two biggest chances I can recall were the Brighton and Ipswich ones, and he fluffed both.

He seems to have the reputation of a goalscorer without ever really having proved it in the professional game.

The thing with this is that Sarr is a starter and Nketiah is an understudy to Mateta. The club should have thought of this when it overpaid for Nketiah's services. Unless Nketiah is pencilled in to become the main man when Mateta is sold to Man United for £100m...
Don’t be daft JPM won’t go to united… it will be Arsenal 🫣

Whilst my patience with Kamada is running out, I'm still inclined to give Nketiah the benefit of the doubt.

He is a quick nippy skilful player. Against Ipswich he wriggled out of some tight situations and kept possession.

Obviously we want goals from him, and, as yet, I haven't given up hope of him being a able to deliver on that front.

Whats up with Edouard he can't even make the bench at Leicester?
Something is going on at Leicester. A quick look at their fans site and the gist is this.

"Vardy great player but 38 but hasn't scored since Dec 3? What do Daka and Edouard have to do to get picked."

Eddie is not disliked by Foxes fan they just don't understand with a team not scoring why he has been given a run same with Daka.

Well if they want him cheap to play in the Championship then they are welcome.

Whatever is wrong with Nketiah (confidence or ability in front of goal), he is still better than Edouard who just can’t cut it in the PL.

the honeymoon is over Eddie. You had a ton of time on the pitch last night, against many players you know, on a pitch you know, .....and still you didnt score.

Mateta was on the pitch for a few nanoseconds and scored a Worldy. How many more years do you expect us to wait for you to come good ?

When you were subbed-off, Was the round of applause from the Gunnars a thanks & appreciation for your contributions as a Gunner ? or was it relief that you are no longer there ? 30 million quid doesnt buy a fella many second chances.

The problem we have with Nketiah is that Parish has lost the receipt and the receptionist at the Emirates (a stony faced cow) is refusing to accept a return let alone give him a refund. He’s gone through all his old jeans and there’s even a grainy picture doing the rounds of his legs poking out of the passenger side of his car as he frantically rummages around every nook & cranny.

We are my friends well and truly stuck with Nketiah and need to ‘suck it up butter-cup’

It's a strange quirk of fate that if Nketiah had stayed at Arsenal he would have had more game time (and probably goals) than he has had at Palace.
Season ending injuries to Jesus and Havertz would have moved Nketiah into pole postion to start games.

I think there is a player there, but am not sure he suits our style- at least in the Mateta role.
He works hard, is mobile and makes good runs.
However, he is often muscled off the ball when he receives the ball and is not clinical when presented with chances.
He will get a better goal return at Arsenal because he's probably presented with 3 chances for every one chance he gets at Palace.

He has a poor first touch which takes the ball away from where he wants to go / should be.

I don't like writing players off but he looks miles off it to me - he has decent movement and he works hard, but so poor technically.

The chance on his left foot yesterday is as easy as you can hope for at this level - it felt like he took an age to spin and make contact with the ball, which allowed Kiwior to block it.

Really, really disappointing.

I don't think our style of play and tactics suit him as a player (at present). He was used to a team who had plenty of possession and dominated play and created lots of chances, where as we have very little possession and our main striker can be isolated at times. That's not to say he cant/wont adapt. If he is the players Dougie thinks he is/or can be, then he'll come good. But at the moment he's lacking the physicality for the lone striker role.

I don't know what style of play would suit him though - he's a forward who's best attribute is his movement, but he can't finish - it's a disastrous combination.

In theory, I would think he's a better fit for a counter-attacking side than one who has loads of the ball - he makes good runs in behind, and gets far more space to do that here than against the sort of low blocks Arsenal face most weeks. He lacks the technical skill to play in tight spaces like forward players at Arsenal.

He seems like a nice guy, and he certainly works hard, but I am really struggling to see how he makes more impact than someone you chuck on from the bench when you need a goal.

I like him, probably because his effort and attitude. He's also been pretty unlucky not to get more goals with some amazing saves and blocks stopping him.

Main thing for me is we massively overpaid. Reckon 10m cheaper would have been fair. 15m rising to 20m depending on output (I can't imagine he's close to meeting any of the add ons after this season). But his price wasn't his fault, it was naive of us to agree to the 'big club premium' like we did with Sakho and Benteke.

Same here Sam, his attitude is first class but my issue is that he's 26 next month. If he was 17/18 we could reasonably hope for him to improve but now? Still, never say never and OG might be able to work some magic on him - maybe he and Kamada will win us the cup then I'll change my tune like John Coltrane in a bouncy castle.
