Nicknames, monikers....either loved or hated by their Owners

Amateur sports teams in the late 90s and early 00s (cricket in my case) abounded with these sorts of funny but harsh nicknames.

"Gazpacho" for one of my team's opening batsmen who was a terrible starter.
"Sadim". An anagram of Midas. Everything he touched seem to turn to excrement.
"Thrush". Forum rules prevent me explaining fully. But he was rather irritating.
"Ray". Ray Charles. Not the most observant or fast reacting fielder in the team.

The series Minder also had a glittering array of memorable names. Tasty Tim, Roly Poly Pete, Mournful, Two Tone, and Pongo to name just a few.
I played cricket with a bloke called Butch - I asked his brother why, "Because he looks like a f*****g dog".
John Rhys-Davies in Budgie played a character called Laughing Spam Fritter. Don't think any reason was ever given.
