At Glasner’s first press conference he announced that he was ‘not David Copperfield (the magician) ‘ as a way of dampening expectations.
Could it be possible that Sage is a magician if he got Edouard to run around a bit and score double figures?
Let’s hope he’s not a Tommy Cooper style magician who only provides the laughs.

Despite having been a French teacher in the dim and distant past, I've taken the easy option with Google Translate:

"While several clubs were interested in Pierre Sage, the RC Lens coach will indeed join Crystal Palace, and everything will speed up in the coming hours, according to our information.

The Pierre Sage saga is coming to an end. Indeed, the RC Lens coach has decided to leave the Artois club after a historic season marked by second place in Ligue 1 and a victory in the Coupe de France.

The destination is now confirmed: Crystal Palace, while other clubs, notably in the Middle East, were interested. The London club, looking for a successor to Oliver Glasner, has made the French coach its priority in recent days. Discussions between the two parties have progressed considerably, and an agreement on personal terms has already been reached, according to our information."

Hopefully, an announcement is imminent if personal terms have indeed been agreed.

The Press conferences would be good: "Spoon, Jar, Jar, Spoon!"

I am just yet again amazed by the delay here.

We have known we needed a new manager for months yet seem no closer to an appointment. Bournemouth replaced their manager within days of knowing there was a vacancy. Liverpool replaced their manager within a week or so of sacking the last one and we swm to just be drifting along as candidates get other jobs or rule themselves out.

There was understandable criticism last year when we won the FA cup and did not push on. We have now won another cup and again now is a time we can push on but without a manager we will simply drift.

Our success last season was because of Glasner not as Parish is such a brilliant chairman and without as good a leader we will just be back to treading water.

1. We didn't know until last week whether we would have European football next season. This would impact on who we could recruit.

2. We are in for Sage but he is contract until 2028, so we will be in discussion with Lens to agree a release fee.

Had speed of recruitment been the overriding criteria we could have announced Sean Dyche a few months ago.

Sorry, but I'm not amazed by the delay because I don't see one. I see no reason to employ an out of work manager like Bournrmouth did. They're usually out of work because they've been sacked, so it made sense to see what the end of season would bring, especially as we won the ECL after the season finished making us a more attractive proposition to potential managers.

It's clear that Iraola was our no 1 choice but once Liverpool sacked Slot that option understandably disappeared.

We are now close to signing a manager still under contract at a club that pushed the double Champions League winners all the way in Ligue 1 and guided his club to their first ever French Cup. He seems a manager worth waiting for, if we get him.

It is the model of plausibility that Bournemouth were aware of Iraola's intentions well before the official announcement. Furthermore it is feasible that Liverpool had decided to replace Slot long before he was relieved of his duties.
The whole process involves a plethora of variables and can get protracted on account of several factors.
I note that Man City have not announced a replacement for Pep Guardiola.

That would be the Steve Parish that kept Glasner to his contract at a time when the majority of people were calling for him to be sacked.

My biggest fear is Palace will sell the best players before we appoint a new manager , Certainly can't see Sage signing for us if that proves to be the case , He has too many other clubs interested in him to risk joining a club that lacks ambition ..

There are limits to our 'Ambition' should we retain our key players.
As we will be competing in Europe, under the newly introduced SCR (Squad Cost Ratio) we are limited to 70% spend of our football revenue (85% for clubs outside Europe) and our outlay in the January 'Window' was significant.

Why?

Parish doesn’t let players go easily or on the cheap!!

We also have money to spend which will entice managers and IF we did sell a star player then the new manager would get that money to bring in a player that they would want.

Why?

What would you prefer. Agreeing a deal with any old manager quickly, or taking a bit more time to get the right man?

Sage is very highly rated and under contract. We are likely not only negotiating his release, but his first team coaching staff too.

Spot on.

I am always surprised at the attitude so often aired on here, that palace should have got a new manager or new players in place sooner.

It's not like buying something you need from a shop. Anyone good enough to improve us will have other options, which means no matter how quickly and decisively we act, that person is unlikely to commit to us immediately. They will wait and see if a bigger opportunity comes along first. We could start approaching managers a year in advance and it would make no difference.
What is it about this that people struggle with?

Once in a blue moon a very good manager is out of work and is happy to sign for us well in advance (Glasner). Mostly though, as an earlier post above so correctly stated, the price you pay for a quick appointment is lower quality. You can have an average manager immediately, if that's what you prefer, because they don't have as many other options. The idea that Bournemouth have shown us the way by signing Rose is bollocks. He's an average manager based on his record, as is Toppmoller. I'm not saying neither could do well, but neither have very strong CVs. It not like waiting to see who else you could get is madness.

If course, the risk of playing the game is that we get strung along all summer only to get let down, and end up with a late compromise (see the Nuno/Vierra summer), but we are nowhere near that situation. The club have obviously learnt from that, hence chasing Iraola wholeheartedly but also giving him a strict deadline.

Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to have the new man in place soon. It must help a bit in terms of planning etc, and I'm sure a new manager would make some contribution to transfer strategy. None of that is essential, though, as it's not the key part of the managers job anymore. That's why we have a director of football.

My biggest fear is Sage is not the manager we hope he is, the pressure now on him has multiplied massively, lets hope he is the right man.
