Anything odds on means either the bookies think it'll happen or enough people have bet on it that they've cut the price to make it an unattractive bet (unless you've got thousands to play with and regard it as buying money)
Which can come very badly unstuck. Indicative that someone knows something.

I don't know! However if you believe clickbait he was but stated his wish to leave so there was no point in any negotiations.

However I still hope he will change his mind. If I was him I would not be in a rush to sign a new contract until I knew who the new manager was and if they wanted him.

So let's hope.
Damn just as i thought we had jostled him out of the door!

I disagree.
We held on to Zaha when he pushed to join Everton and Arsenal.
We got another year out of Olise when Chelsea met his buyout.
Wharton has a few more years on his contract, as does Lacroix.
I believe Munoz signed a new contract last season.
We haven't had players down tools to force moves, although that possibility can't entirely be discounted in the future.

To go back to the original point any ambitious new is unlikely to be too keen to join a club which potentially loses 6 or so key players, including those sold in the last year.
Sarr, Sarr, Sarr

As you've alluded to - and I've stated. Palace don't have a clue who they're getting so not sure anyone else can possibly know.

You're putting your own interpretation on his motivation which may or may not be valid.
It's equally plausible (and speculative) that he wanted another year at Palace to continue his development in the knowledge that he would probably be in more demand the following year and that how it eventually worked out.

To go back to the central point, just because a bigger club comes calling it doesn't mean we have to sell a key player, in particular in the absence of a release clause and if the player has a lengthy period remaining on his contract.
I doubt ambitious managers will be attracted to join a club that actively looks to sell it's best assets.
Parish has managed to sell no more than one key asset each window and I hope that continues.
As you rightly say, we've both put our interpretation on why Olise didn't go to Chelsea. The point, though, is that your post seemed to suggest that Palace/Parish stopped Olise going to Chelsea whereas the final decision surely rested with Olise given the release clause had been triggered. The club/Parish may have persuaded Olise to stay but that's very different from preventing him from leaving.

Interestingly enough the story I heard on Olise is that the club were expecting to retain him for the season he left, but the Bayern offer came out of the blue.
The likes of City and Arsenal hadn't come calling
Palace were expecting Eze to go first, perhaps because he was a bit older and more experienced .
With release clauses , if they are met and the player wants to go, there's not a great deal the club can do.
I just hope that the likes of Wharton and Lacroix don't have such clauses and that we can retain these key players for the new manager.
Some may say if we get £70 plus million let Wharton go and rebuild.
Would that it were so simple.
If this season has taught us anything it's that buying expensive signings is not necessarily the panacea.
You're better retaining priven quality.

I dont know about Max but Adam Wharton does not have a release clause. It was a standard (if there is such a thing) straight forward transfer. We met Blackburn's valuation and added a modest (10%?) sell on agreement to sweeten the deal. Adam signed a 5 year contract with no release figure/agreement in it.
This is why we are in the driving seat as far as Wharton is concerned. Unless he asks to leave, I dont see that he is that type of character and I get the feeling he is happy at Palace he'll be going nowhere this summer. Obviously if one of the big boys want him bad enough Parish will have to listen to what they are offering but this summer it would need to be a huge offer to tempt Palace to sell right now. Could happen if he goes to the World Cup and does really well but I'm sure Parish is very relaxed about the situation.

Palace generally dont hawk our players around for sale at the best of times. In a summer where we hope to be getting ready for another European campaign AND are trying to keep a new manager happy I'm only expecting players to go that we want gone. Possibly Mateta (if we identify a suitable replacement) Kamada but we knew he was going anyway. Maybe Eddie if he can prove his fitness during the summer. I doubt anyone else will leave.

Whether we are happy with release clauses isn't really the point, there will be many times where a player will not sign for us or renew his deal unless a release clause is inserted. WHat can we do? Even if there is no release clause, there might as well be one as we cannot keep a player who wishes to move on, as was the case with Guehi.

Freedom of movement is one of the key reasons clubs like ours cannot build strong sides over time, even if we don't need to sell. Any Palace manager must work with what we have at that time, and accept that we cannot promise to keep our best players. Nobody can.

All of which tilts further in favour of the likes of Iraola and Frank, who have lived all that before.

Bit different with Wharton when he still has 3 years left on his contract. If the club dont want to sell him this summer he wont be sold. Sure, if he indicates he wont sign an extension then the club can still get top dollar for him a year from now when he'll still have two years left on his contract.
On the other hand he might even be open to signing a new deal and staying longer. Who knows?

Something I can't see has not been discussed is the fact that alot of our players will not have a full preseason whoever comes in, the group stages of the world cup are until the end of June, most of our international players countries will make it to the last 32 and many to the round of 16, which finished the 7th of July. Given they will have had no rest between the Conference final and the start of friendlies and the tournement, most you would think then be given 2 weeks off, they would report back to training around the27th of July 2 weeks before the start of the new season, we will be asking a new manager with new ideas and maybe new players to get up to speed as a squad in 2-3 weeks. The start of the season is going to be difficult for alot of clubs, even more so for ours.

Someone at my weekly mid-life crisis football seemed convinced that Iraola is going to be City's next manager. Currently 6-1 with some bookies. Weird to see Glasner in the mix at 12-1. With the Leverkusen job expected to become available, I think that's where Oliver will pop up next. I definitely do not expect to see him in charge of City.
