Newcastle vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I know you hate Kamada, so wouldn't expect you to give any credit. I also not that you dont slate any of the other players even though some were terrible. Lacroix in particular.....

There isnt anything that you've said that says its a formation issue. The very notion of wingbacks is they can play more attacking or more defensively. The fact that we got exposed was because Munoz was so far forward most of the time and we kept giving the ball away. Didn't happen as much on the left hand side did it? Does Barnes score if Richards stays in position rather that the kamikaze blitz that he tried?

Yeah they knew our weaknesses, its not hard is it. Midfield 2 (of Lerma and Hughes) press too quickly and can be bi-passed, Munoz is always way up the pitch and Richards isn't that fast. Win the ball and get it in that channel early. But thats pretty obvious, and most games teams aren't able to exploit that.
You can blame formation as much as you want, but a lot of them were individual mistakes. Lacroix's 2 for example. Probably Henderson for the first. Richards lunacy, (and Lacroix gets beaten way way too easily) for Barnes goal. Free kick goal wasn't a 'mistake', but not a formation point (and neither Sarr or JPM made an attempt to even put him off). So 5 goals there with very very clear mistakes (or at least not formation issues)

The missed pen was a BIG moment. Also didn't help that Eze, JMP and Sarr did the square root of F all.

You accuse me of bias on one player, then say it wasn't tactical, then blame every other player individually. Well if that ain't bias nor tactics then I feel bad for your overall analysis.

We have to face the facts we are at best mid table team and at worst on this form future relegation contenders, talk of Europe is just a pipe dream. Both MC and Newcastle exploited our weaknesses which is lack of pace at the back, inability to deal with crosses to the far post, poor passing from defensive positions in to midfield and beyond, our lack of ideas and intensity in the final third is also of great concern. Everybody was culpable last night, including the coaching team for this performance. Eze has to be singled out as the worst player on the pitch last night and deserves to be dropped to wake him up. The talk in the press of players moving in the summer, as well as the management coaching team and DOF will have a negative effect on morale and if correct is a worry for next season.

Yes, we are a mid table team. If we could have extended our recent, excellent form away to City and a bang in form Newcastle, then maybe a push into a European place wouldn't be out of the question. As for '' future relegation candidates '' that is just nonsense. Until the last two games the only team to have picked up more points in 2025 is Liverpool. I think you are overreacting to two poor results.

Even then we had opportunities to take something from those games. A two goal lead at City and the missed penalty at Newcastle.

I see no lack of pace at the back with the exception of Richards. It's in the centre of midfield where we lack pace.

Eze has had a poor season. Not entirely his fault as he has had injuries that have hindered him getting into a regular playing rhythm. Nonetheless he scored at the Etihad and provided the passes for both goals against Brighton. He was poor at Newcastle but so was the entire team.

As for what you read in the Press, every clubs best players and rated managers are subject to speculation. If you worry about everything you read there, you might as well worry about whether the sun is going to rise in the morning.

A good read and mostly that’s how it is. I’ve been guilty of knee jerk reactions to those last two defeats and how we have played as a team compared to games before them. Let’s hope you are correct and that it is because it was Man City and Newcastle. Bournemouth match tomorrow will show us if our reactions to our last two defeats as well as a poor performance at Southampton and not so great against Brighton (but we won 🙂 are over the top knee jerk reactions. We need to get some form back before Villa for sure

We got bashed up twice.
Rather see we were crap and deserved it than play really well and be gutted we lost 1-0 twice.
Although if JPM was put through early on or eze scores the pen it may have been a different outcome.
5-1 😳😀
We said that at Anfield when we lost 9-0, if GT had tucked the penalty away we would definitely have had them rattled 🤣

It'll be alright because Bournemouth will only beat us 3-0.

Jesus! Someone hasn’t been taking g their happy pills!

If we'd even had a POOR start to the season rather than an EXECRABLE one, we would now sit comfortably in 8th place. With a couple of breaks here and there, we could be even be in 5th.

Long-term, I would like to see us consistently finish in the top half of the table, period. That would require continued good recruitment and an excellent manager: Dougie- and Ollie-level. Not easy to find and retain unless we find wealthier and more ambitious ownership. I have no complaints at the moment, though, and I believe Parish has done quite well with the resources at his disposal.
