In the lead up to this game Glasner was at pains to emphasise our very good defensive record this season and not to focus on the 2 games where we conceded 5 goals (Arsenal and Man City), seeing those games as aberrations.
That was probably fair, but then we let another 5 in tonight.
This will inevitably knock confidence, and although the defenders all had nights to forget, I was more concerned by the lack of form and fitness of the midfielders.
Neither Hughes nor Wharton still look right and this is fundamental to our ability to retain the ball and create.
Footnote; Sky has just said we had a higher xG than Newcastle. Just goes to show preposterous that stat is.

Has any team in the Prem ever let 5 goals in, in 3 consecutive matches? That would be a record we wouldn’t ever forget and we’d have got damn good odds on that before the Citeh game.
