New Manager Planning

If we cancel Uche, and loan Esse, does that give us more wiggle room?
We'd probably have to pay something to cancel Uche. Maybe up to 50% of the loan deal. Depends on clauses. Esse wouldn't save much. I don't think he's on massive wages. Overall would save us quite little. Maybe nothing but max 500k - something like that. However, it could be up to maybe 1.5 mil if we're paying a big wage to Uche, rather than the loan fee. But I can't imagine his wages are massively high either. Still, it's not going to get us much.

On Monday evening I was at a do in Central London, where met Borna Sosa.
Before I detail our conversation can I say what a friendly man he was, we had quite a long conversation and he wss willing to give me his time (helped I said I was 13 year ST holder).
About Glasner he said for sure til summer but who knows after. It might depend on things (this is nothing new to us).
I asked how the deal was in coming to Palace, because from what I saw we got an experienced international for just 3 million. He said he got offers from other clubs like Atalanta, but Glasner convinced him to come to Palace. Apparently Glasner had tried to sign Sosa in Germany previously when he was at Stuttgart.
He also said it was strange as Ajax signed him, but the sporting director left weeks after and Ajax wanted to change identity by selling all the European players and going back to their own. That's why we seemed to get Sosa for so cheap.
I said I guess youre not playing much but you're the reason TM has been on fire recently and raised his game. He said he just knows he needs to be ready when the manager calls on him. He told me Oli tends to speak to players on the trianing pitch 2 days before a game and say if they're playing the next match.
The really interesting but was when we spoke about January. He said yes the club needs to spend and do it. I said ok well what do we have say 40m, and he said he thinks more and we need to go out and spend more to support the manager. I have to say I was surprised at his honesty, but he's right isn't he. Lets see what happens in January- might be the reason Oli stays or not.
He told me where he lives (45 mins drive from training ground) and he has a young baby, so the move was a big one when he came to Palace in the summer.
All in all it was really nice to speak with him, he said team camaraderie is amazing and just speaking with Sosa I could see it.
Lets hope this all works out!

Thanks for this insight

Very interesting read , and thanks for sharing . He comes across a very nice lad . Hopefully we will see him against the Shells tomorrow night .

If, and a big if, can anyone see Glasner walking away if we gain Champions league qualification, he would be mad to go somewhere and last 6 months, not happening, we need Aston Villa to win the Europa and Arsenal/Man City to win the Champions, then 6 places available.

Could that be 7 places if we make one of the top 2 spots in the Uefa competitions performance coefficients?

On 2nd thoughts (which often tend to be the better ones) if Arsenal or City win the CL but still finish in CL places (either top 4 or 5 depending on how well our teams do in Europe this year) then there won't be any extra CL places. CL winners only get a country an extra place if they finish OUTSIDE their country's league qualification positions. If I remember rightly this rule came in after defending CL champions Liverpool finished 5th the following year and Uefa decided they didn't want their reigning champions unable to defend their trophy.

Likewise, if Villa win the Europa but finish in the CL places in the league we don't get an extra place. Basically if we want CL football nest season we have to finsih in the top 4 (or more likely 5 given our clubs' current performances in their respective Uefa competition leagues).

on the contrary his stock wouldn't be any hire than at that point. He could walk into a CL qualified team earning way more than at Palace, with more £ to spend on players, and more chance of venturing further in the competition. It would be the best time to leave, unless we suddenly find a wad of money down the sofa and let Oli spend it!

And more pressure to have to produce the goods, a bad run of 10 games at a "big" club and out the door, no pressure at Palace.

If that happens won't there be 7 places as england gets 5 teams automatically now?
