New Archbishop of Canterbury

i reckon a ton of die-hard Christians, in the CofE , will defect across to the competition.

Catholicism, Methodism, Presbyterianism.....whatever. Even the Jesus Army ....if it was still fighting the valiant battle. Meanwhile the C of E can re-locate to a feminist hippy commune in California.
Deano has song for USA communes.
Starts with Waco

She is clearly a waste of space. The Anglican Church is a joke in this country.

It's about time the clergy was kicked out of the House of Lords.

I know this sentiment will upset some of my friends on here, but the church is now just a mouthpiece for wokery and idealistic liberal mumbo jumbo.

How many people actually care about The Archbishop or what he/she thinks? She is an unelected religious fanatic.

Don't get me started on the God bothering.
In bold, yes.

I would opine she is a political rather than religous fanatic

Correct. But we are getting those at the top of every point of influence. TV companies, Governors of Monetary authorities , Educational bodies, Judiciaries............EVERYWHERE.

I often wondered about Pope Francis too. He seemed very Woke for a Catholic Pope.

Are we getting Religious leaders who are not very religious ? Economics leaders who are not economists ? TV company leaders who never spent time working in a studio, with the camera equipment. NHS bosses with no medical background ?

Agreed. We need an elected upper house. If Faith leaders want to be part of the legislature then they need to stand for election.

oops. Careful what you wish for. Sadiq won the London vote. His mates could end up filling the House of Lords.

faith leaders, indeed. But i cannot see a Jewish vote managing to seize the day ? Its numerically Unlikely even in North London.

And that is the problem. Once upon a time we had 24 COE bishops in the Lords. However because of diversity we now have to have Rabbi's, Imans, and other faith leaders to balance it up.

None of this people should be there by appointment.

not a lot of tolerance of rainbow flags over there. But then again, the Bible is fairly clear on the matter. A strong disapproval of a man lying with another man. Not that the new Archibishop of Canterbury will be expected to go all ian Paisley on the topic.

I was referring to her gender but her blessings of same sex relationships also imposes our values on people not ready for them.

Not forgetting that there is still a goodly number of clergy in the UK who still don't even accept that a woman can be a priest, let alone AoC.......

101 Parishes in England alone are under Alternative Episcopal Oversight.

It does interfere with the washing up. 😏 :drunk:😆

I couldn’t care less about this. There’s nothing that irritates me more than seeing a ‘quote’ from the AoC or any other religious ‘leader’ when they stick their oar into a discussion that has nothing whatsoever to do with them. The former AoC was a past master at it - as though any bollox he spouted had meaning. The new AoC is a woman, so what. Or is she? A proper one or one of the new ones, as that’ll be coming soon when the lefties realise that churches aren’t quite inclusive enough. (But not all churches. There are some religions that the ‘brave’ lefties are far too scared to call out or criticise).

However, for now, unelected church leaders and their respective churches (and by churches I mean any religious central command) are hardly the bastions of good conduct - claiming to hold the keys to a magical eternal kingdom where only the righteous (and a few folk that kill or abuse others, generally innocent, often children) can enter.

In my opinion (and I apologise for going a bit Swiss Toni here) Religion is like making love to a beautiful woman. You pick one that looks right for you, you dress up nice, you tell her she’s the only one you’ll ever love — and before you know it, you’re shouting at strangers in the street and starting wars over who gets to touch her first.

The difference is, when football fans kick off, it usually just ends with a few pints and a black eye. Religion’s more the “accidentally burn down half of Europe” sort of evening.
