Netflix thread

That is brilliant...."riphagen" a film about a character in Dutch secret service is very good, don't know whether it still on netflix
i have been using Netflix ( & other media ) to learn a few languages. Taking about 2 to 3 years per language. For Dutch, i Watched Riphagen 4 or 5 times without the subtitles. A pretty interesting film of a real-life nasty fecker.

Netflix is excellent for learning Italian, although there is a lot of stuff from Naples & Sicily that is in incomprehensible dialect. I love that you can flip the subtitles between English and Original Language. Gomorrah was fantastic telly but useless for language learning.

1922 is a good movie with a Stephen King script.

American Primeval is very good gritty western that does not hold back on the violence.
See Better Call Saul is on thier which is brilliant. Even better then Breaking Bad
But where are the dinosaurs?

I would recommend Midnight Mass. It's a horror series with occasional heart-stopping moments, lots of vaguely deep conversation, and is quite poignant. Not sure I am selling it well but it was great, and the rest of my family thought so too.

I don't own Netflix, instead I tend to buy boxsets of stuff I get recommended to me, but in the circles I move in I've heard that Mobland is very good, my missus likes something called Reacher I think....I've heard that Penguin was well through of.....Oh and that series that Chris Pratt is in.

Mobland is very very good. Tom Hardy and his character is the highlight, but Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Geoff Bell are very good too. I think it’s on Paramount. Paddy Considine is pretty good too. He’s in a decent series called ‘Informer’, playing a plain clothes police with several layers to his character.

I also enjoyed ‘Jackal’ with Eddie Redmayne as the hitman. I think it was on Sky Arts or Sky something.

Mobland very good gangster series with Tom Hardy. Read all 25 Reacher books series is ok. Try Dept Q on netflix really good amd great story line. Slow Horses on Apple is amazing. Watch most stuff on Sflix website

Not Netflix but the ITV app.
Watched 'River' the other day with Stellan Skarsgard. Turns out it's 10 years old - but a masterpiece IMHO. Nicola Walker is always good but Adeel Akhtar is brilliantly understated - really love that guy.
Just started Dept. Q - looks promising.

All dreadful. And I've watched them all!

Dept Q is genuinely excellent.

Btw I thought the BBC and ITV was just new stuff. They still stream Brideshead, Jewel in the Crown and Bleak House!. I had no idea. Modern stuff is meh. I'm having an old telly binge.

Might campaign for Edge of Darkness and State of Play which are, bafflingly, not on the platform. .

Dept Q was very good (if not quite Line of Duty or Luther for me) and looks set up for at least another series - since there are 10 books they can mix & match story lines.
Northern Exposure is on Amazon Prime - that was an enjoyable and at times surreal programme.
For a true story the first series of Underbelly was pretty good about Melbourne gangsters.
