Munoz

I think it’s an accepted fact that if relegation becomes a possibility then Steve Parish acts accordingly and takes the necessary steps to avoid it. It’s worked so far.

Your supporter friend needs to get his head around the fact that between the Premier League and UEFA they are making it nigh on impossible to compete with the top clubs.

After the last couple of years, appointing Dyche would have been running up the white flag in terms of ambition.
He is fully cognisant of the financial restrictions under which the club has to operate, hence his opining that we cannot progress to the 'Next Level' in terms of league placement on a consistent basis.
He accepts "Ambition" but being a realist he believes that just remaining in the PL is all-important, accordingly he believes that the appointment of Sean Dyche would have been more beneficial to the club.
It would appear he is bit unsettled by the managerial appointment and developments regarding player movements.
Time will tell if his fears turn out be reality.
I of course wish Pierre Sage every success.

Munoz is such a great player because of his unbelievable engine. I've never seen a player who can get up and down the pitch as he does, often ending up as a centre forward! The big caveat on this is that when he is not 100% fit, he is a fairly average PL right-back. So as much as I want him to stay, I can understand why the club would consider selling for the reported £25m given his age, injury last season, and the amount of games he's played in the last 12 months. But please, Mr Parish, if you do sell him, make sure it's not to another PL club.

Irrespective of his age, I don't think we can afford to sell another top quality player this season.
We have already lost Eze, Guehi and Lacroix. We are pushing our luck as it is. Munoz and Wharton have to stay at this time round.
Business is one thing, but relegation must be avoided at all costs.
Munoz is past his best, his injury last season took away some of his pace and he wasn't the same player. Time to cash in on the 30 year old, while he still has a £20m value to other clubs.

£20+ mil for a player of his age who may have lost a bit of his fizz is probably the right thing to do, but he may return to his best for a couple of years yet although his game is based so much on pace and energy, and he was absolutely central to the way we played under Glasner, him and Sarr down the right were unplayable at times, if it's £25mil then head says yes, but heart wants to keep for a year or two. I reckon head will win.

Munoz’s season last season was not his best .
I always thought that he was best as an attacker and while he was a good defender , he wasn’t as consistent as AWB or Tyrrick .

He best element in attack was his speed , but post injury , I didn't think he got back to his good early season form

Reminds me of selling Andersen to Fulham .. 25 million for a 28 year old at the peak of his game .

25 million for a 30 year old who some supporters think is possibly just past his peak .

Andersen . We got max .

No club gets every move right , but this feels ok . If he’s going to leave , better to get 25
Now than 10-15 next window. That gives us a chance to pick up someone further up
The pecking order .

I do also wonder whether the fact that Palace have been open about declaring what seems like a quite reasonable asking price , might trigger interest from other clubs , one of the big ones who might see him as cover for a year or two in an area of weakness .

World Cup , he did look back to his best , but there’s a difference between lifting for a tournament , and doing it week in week out in a season when speed is your biggest weapon .

He will forever be one my favourite players up there with the ultimate club man Joel Ward and of course Wilf

the article in the link suggest that our Danny is on his bike ...

It doesnt suggest anything.

While this thread is stuffed with good reasons why Munoz should leave and best wishes from us all, I am unaware of any interest in him.

Has the club or his agent simply run up the flag and we now wait for the fish to come?

(And a curse on the house of anyone who accuses me of using mixed metaphors).

10+ years in the premier league only "top 6" plus everton have been in the league longer than us. 3 trophies and a second year in Europe. What exactly is this next level we have not reached?
Winning the Europa League?

No, but we also dont really have the funds to spend 20m on a back up fullback, so its safe to assume that there may have been chats with Danny's camp

And will the replacement be better? Munoz looked pretty sharp in the World Cup.

Fans seem preoccupied with business these days. I want points.

Also, we have to compete in Europe. We need squad.

Of course it's important but not necessarily to the fans - no one stands outside the bank cheering when the statement is due.
I think some fans have been conditioned to see our players as assets.

Football is what matters. We want to see top players. If our dealings can improve the squad, then great, otherwise, it's just money.

Hope we keep Munoz, Any club in European competition needs not just traditional back up players, making very few starts, but players to share the load throughout the season. The players signed so far fit the bill. If Palace need to sell Munoz, it can only mean they still are not really moving forward with any plans to be a really competitive European outfit.

No . Fans are fans and support the team unconditionally , but many people on the forum ( and elsewhere ) recognise that Crystal Palace Football Club is a business and if we, as fans , want to have a successful team to support , the club needs to be run as a successful business .

That’s not conditioning . That’s just the way it is . So people using business terms to discuss player movements are acknowledging the reality of our situation as fans of a business .

I think Munoz is great player but like others on this thread can understand the business logic of considering selling him .

If he leaves Palace ( unless he goes to Nottingham …) will wish him all the best .

I'd definitely keep him unless there is a good offer from a top club. 20 million over two years is earned by finishing 3 places higher both years - a handful of points in mid-table. Much more likely to get further in Europe with him in the team as well, plus he's exciting to watch. Plenty in the tank from his WC performances
