Guinness doesn't keep well, it starts to slightly worsen the older it is, that is why it tastes better in Dublin, nothing to do with the water, there are 27 distilleries all over the world.

£115,000 for 800 barrels seems not enough to me.

After Googling, there's 88 pints in a standard barrel of Guinness
800x88=70,400 pints.
£115,000÷70,400= £1.63 per pint.

I keep hearing that pubs make sod all on beer sales ???

That £115k may be Guinness' cost price, but between £1.63 and the 6 quid or so a punters pays per pint suggests otherwise.
