Agreed.Sad Dick Khant's promise of no strikes in full swing.
DRIVERLESS TRAINS ARE SAFE AND DON'T STRIKE
USA
We cannot have 3,500 drivers holding the capital to ransom.
Putting to one side the how much they are paid and how many hours they work etc, they are simply surplus to requirements.
In Hong Kong we have a person sitting in the front of the train but they don't do anything, the system is automated and in peak times trains are every 90 seconds more or less.
Many cities have fully automated systems without any person on the train.
The time has come to grasp this nettle for the London transport system
USA
Agreed.
I would actually sack all tube drivers and offer then a new contract which included a no strike clause. I would also open the positions up to the public which is currently not the case at the moment. It's public money so why should this be a closed shop.
If surplus to requirements meant automatic redundancy millions of government workers in the UK would be out of workIf they are surplus to requirements all of them need to be made redundant which is not cheap to do and after that they will need to find other jobs doing what?
Different countries can't really be compared to each other because of laws and other policies.
A lot of the lines/signaling etc in UK can not run fully automated.
Main trains are switching as well over time but they still require a driver which are going through re training for the new systems.

Just don't hire new ones , no overtime, and wastage will do the rest.
They have good pensions etc, no tears for them.
Of course comparisons can be made, red herring
Who is talking about signalling?
A driverless train that requires a driver, that's a fresh approach.
I was a Trade Union Official and experience showed me that no strike agreements destroy an employer and his business rapidly, firstly the are not legally binding, secondly the workers if disgruntled work to rule ,the underground is perfect for this trains left all over the shop not taken to the starting depot total chaos the next morning it usually means a go slow where say four stops take over an hour, safety checks by the driver take forever, the workers love it as they do not lose pay and can enjoy a few weeks of Luddism. Most Employers are far too savvy to fall for that one.Agreed.

Ever heard of the MTR? I have worked with them more than 30 years. They operate the Jubilee line. There pensions are not that good.
People need to stop listening to nonsense media pushes and really look into subjects.
The govt did get rid of a lot of workers again showing you like others have no clue what you are on about.
They don't call them driver less trains they call them automated and yes they still require a person in UK
Sack was an off the cuff remark. You can change their job descriptions and tell them sign a new contract or take redundancy. You can't just sack people I suggest you educate yourself on the subject before coming out with silly comments.
You can't put no strike either in contracts.
Public money but they are still being managed just like before by other private operators it has been like this for years and will continue to be the case for many more. (The public is just writing blank cheques now)
Closed shop anyone could have gone to apply for these jobs it's just most wont because they have strict testing and many will fail (I know people who have done this)

That is why London voters continually return him to office,we love the clean air no more smogs.Khan has been doing wonderfully well anyway. Brilliant mayor.

a bunch of overpaid, under-performing, under-educated t0ssersopen the positions up to the public which is currently not the case at the moment. It's public money so why should this be a closed shop.
