Full Jamaica International, proven Premier League goalscorer, currently a free agent looking for his next club, he’s been training with Brentford but they are not expected to sign him.

I think West Ham have missed him a lot. Obviously there are reasons why he has been out, he’s at a good stage in his recovery from injury now and he’s been playing for McClaren’s Jamaica side.

Now, why would we be interested? We can all see that JP has been getting tired with the current schedule we’ve had. Eddie is doing great as a backup option, but still JP has the vast majority of minutes we play in all games, all comps. Having another option in the mix could allow him a bit more rest, allowing him to be at full fitness when he does play.

I cant think of a reason not to give him a contract to the end of the season, or a pay to play contract

He's currently training with Brentford who might sign him up. Fair play to him for coming back from his injuries but at 35 time is against him. In the PL anyway.

Yes from me as a short term measure, provided he has recovered his fitness.
We were in for another forward on the last day of the window (Solomon), but didn’t conclude the deal so it could be argued there is a vacancy and subsequently we lost JRS on loan and it appears that in the near term Esse isn’t deemed to be ready.

In the early weeks of the season it’s evident already we’ve had to use Devenny and Kamada in front 3 roles to which they are not really suited.
The question for me is simple - would a fit Anotonio carry more of a threat to the opposition than those two?
I think the answer is yes, and we also have to bear in mind that we lose Sarr and Uche to Afcon in December also.
I can see little downside on a short term deal.
He can cover all front 3 positions and even RWB, where he had a very successful spell.

How's about being 35 for starters.
Anyone remember the bloke who scored a penalty for us to get us into the Premier League?

Antonio may or may not be the player he was before getting injured. But if he's at levels anywhere like pre-injury then I can see him having a role as an impact substitute. He's also a very affable guy who I think would fit in the changing room well.

That said, I'd prefer the club to get it right with Esse and Nketiah if we can because their ceilings are higher.

It's not his age, although that doesn't help.

It's more that he is a bit of a knob. Defending cat-basher Zouma for starters.

If we are going to sign older players they need to be characters who set a positive example.

As a pay as play deal for me its a great deal, for the Carabo, and if Mateta gets injured, he is free, and has strength, IMO a decent deal for the rest of the season.
I think you are right if he is anything like the player he was at his peak or even pre injury. But West Ham don't seem to want him and he has a huge connection with them. Similarly, it seems Brentford don't want him and they have been working up close with him and recently.

West Ham haven’t been getting much right of late so I wouldn’t read too much into that. Brentford must have had some level of interest for him to be training with them, why they have decided against is for anyone to guess, we just don’t know.

It would depend on how well he has healed up, but the skills are definitely there. He wouldn’t be a regular option but I feel we’d benefit from that bit of extra depth.

Been some good points made about character though, can’t stand Zouma for what he did and I didn’t know Antonio defended him tbh.
