Michael Olise

If we hadn’t agreed to the release clause he may well have gone for nothing as he would not have signed the contract. The release clause was only for CL clubs. He had agreed to stay at Palace until Bayern stepped in and offered to double his wages.
It may have slipped your notice that we don’t have the money of some clubs which results in our hands being somewhat tied in contract negotiations. If you want your club to have the upper hand in contract negotiations I suggest you support United or Chelsea.

Yawn you defend everything SP does.

First you missed the point he had a 30-35m release clause when we signed him from Reading with them also getting 20-25% which is ridiculous and we was lucky he didn't fancy Chelsea who triggered it.

Next we sign him to again another ridiculous one at only 50m madness.

The club is awful when it comes to contract side of things you see it with so many players.

Our money situation is meaningless in this case you are trying to direct away

You must have missed Guehi situation that is how it should have gone down with Olise but with him in the end going but for close to double what we got.

I don't like Parish so am not defending him but:

We activated his £8m clause at Reading which may have included the sell on fee and then he may have stipulated the sell on clause be in his contract when signing for us.

He then could've left for Chelsea for £25m last year (or £35m, I can't remember) to Chelsea but he signed another contract with a higher sell on clause which suited both him and us.

Olise is a different fish to Guehi and seems that he and his team have an idea of how to map out his career and where they want it to go. Guehi conducted himself brilliantly but he may have no intention of signing a new contract and we may lose him for nothing in 2 summer's time whereas however annoying it is that Olise went at least we made a big profit on him.

Over the past 15years, Ronaldo and Messi have won 13 of the 15 years Ballon d'Or awards.
The imposters were Modric and Benzema.
Now these two are out of puff, with the magical skills of Olise emerging in the Bundesliga, he could get in on the act if he keeps up current performances.

The other top teams doesn't matter they have the cash to buy.

We messed up big time he went way to cheap he is someone we could have been getting 100m for and he went for only 50m shocking really how poor we are when it comes to this sort of thing and contracts. (Reading got a nice % out of it 20% I believe)
i don't think we messed up we got an increased release clause and his agent was keen to keep this as low as possible.
In the Independent thias weekend they published a big article on the demise of Reading FC. Within it they mention that Olise was sold for £60m and Reading got £5.2m as they has a 10% sell on clause. Most other articles seem to quote 60m Euro, so £50m.

Whatever it is it is clearly much more than the £35m original release clause and on paper it is not an unreasonable price - yes it is not great, but not terrible given what he has achieved thus far in his career

By the time he retires I think he will be the most successful player to have ever played for our club. That's easily lombardo at the moment but he will win plenty at bayern and you're only leaving them for Madrid, barca, city. He's only gonna get better, he will start for france at the next world cup and will be among the best players in the world within the next couple of years.

So what would you have done? Only offered him a new contract with a higher release clause? Do you honestly think he'd have agreed to that?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, it wasn’t ridiculous at the time because I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted he was going to be as good or as sort after as he was

You missed the point that without that release clause of £30-35m HE WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNED FOR US. Without the £50m release clause HE WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNED the new contract.
Guehi situation completely different he did not have a release clause but a buy back clause. He obviously did not insist on RC when he signed. The players have all the power these days.
By the way I have been very critical of SP on here but over Guehi he p,aged a blinder

I thought Parish pulled off a blinding deal for us. He increased the release clause to somewhere around £60m. We kept our dream player for another season which gave us memories for life and helped to secure us a top 10 finish.
We then sold him on for the release fee which was 70% more than Chelsea bid a year earlier. Stunning deal. Dont forget, Olise had just had major surgery on his hamstring. A very tricky issue to overcome, which as we saw took Olise some time and a lot of anguish.
The release clause that secured him in the first place when he came from Reading gave us the opportunity to be a platform for Olise to progress from. Assuming he improved, he was never going to stay. Not many seemed to grasp that. But overall it ended up a win win for both parties of the deal. Always the best way.
What was there not to like?

I agree totally. Let’s be honest the lad has already shown in 30 days that he can be a superstar in European and World football.

He turned down Chelsea because he knew being “trapped” in that club would be detrimental to his career.

He knew another year at Palace was the right thing to do and we benefited with an extra £10M in prize money and £20M in resale value.

Champions league release clause only offered 4 English clubs the right to buy him plus Europe’s finest.

I will miss his talent at SP but really it was an inevitable sequence of events waiting to happen and both player and club were transparent and honorable in their actions!

I am getting a lot of pleasure watching his progress at Bayern. I always liked Olise. He is so different especially when it comes to interviews, wearing lederhosen or just playing football with his extraordinary different skills.

Brilliant player who I expect - baring serious injury - will eventually move to Real Madrid. The potential to be one of - if not the - greatest player of his generation and we were fortunate enough to have had him as a Palace player

I confess that I have tonight made a special arrangement with Mrs POG.

While she sits down with a G&T to watch her favourite archaeology programme on Blaze or some such, I will be in the kitchen with my favourite whisky in front of the TV (yes, more than one) to watch Villa play Bayern, just so I can marvel at Michael's magic feet.

Yes I expect I’ll have a peep at Aston Villa v Michael Olise as well 😀
