Mateta’s Value

Right now, he's worth more than anyone can afford.

We're not far enough from the relegation zone to say we would be safe without his contribution. We don't have any other recognised forwards that could replace him and even if someone paid us £100m for him, we wouldn't be able to get a quality forward into the squad that would gel quickly enough to keep us going this season. In the summer, there's time, but not at this stage in the season and not when relegation could still be an issue.

Selling Guehi would be bad, but we could cope. Selling Mateta would be a disaster.

A lot!

But given his age a 50m ceiling surely.

If he can continue performing it will be interesting to see if anyone come in for him in the summer. Hard to believe there wouldn't be interest from somewhere.

I hate myself for saying it but he'll be 28 before the next season starts. This might be the last summer to sell for a big fee.

In the current landscape of the striker market, I would say 50 if we sell him now and 60 if decide to do so in the Summer.

Mateta is very key to us and I think would take at least the 50 mentioned above before we even entertain the notion of selling him.

As someone else said: He is not getting any younger though so we need to cash in relatively soon if we think that is the best thing to do.

Not to jinx it or anything mind haha but some very good replacements could be found if we get close to above mentioned fees and still have a good amount left over imo:

Oumar Diakite-Stade Reims.21 year Ivory Coast International.
Hugo Duro-Valencia. 25 years old.
Jonas Wind-Wolfsburg. 25 years old.

According to the Telegraph, via the BBC today, Villa want £80 m for him and have turned down a bid of £57 m from, who else?...West Ham.
I hate to say anything good about West Ham but £57m is a serious bid. If that were Spurs or Arsenal no way would they bid that. Instead they would try and unsettle the player and get him for a lot less.

It's up to Villa, I think £80m maybe too much for potential but not if he continues his form next season.

We haven't had a great history with strikers since we've been back in the PL, plus Mateta is a huge character who makes football fun. I'm with Lanzo: Don't sell! Sell Eduoard to pay the milkman, sell Schlupp to reduce the pastries bill and then maybe Parish can reduce his hair styling team to three people.

27 is not old for CF, he is contracted now until 2027, for me it’s NOT FOR SALE. If you need to sell in this summer to buy then Guehi and Doucoure, should get 90/100m and easier to replace.
Guehi with not long on his contract will be worth £45m to £50m. Where is the other £40m coming from? Doucoure can’t get into our first eleven behind Hughes, Lerma and even Kamada. He’s a shadow of what he was before injury. Can’t see anyone bidding for him and if they do it’s going to be under £20m

Why would Duran leave villa to go to West Ham?? It’s one of the most ridiculous bids I’ve heard for a long time!
JPM is going nowhere.
I would however sell off various players to raise money to buy Chalobah, but I think Chelsea will hang onto him now for a couple of years and sell him to the continent like Gallagher.

Mateta was one of the top PL strikers in the last calendar year and he's started this one like he means to continue being one.

Quite simply, He's NOT for sale (at least NOT in this window - if he doesn't extend his contract beyond 2027 then we may need to think about it in the Summer if a big enough offer comes in).

We need to get him onto a proper contract or his value is only going one way!

Assuming he does sign, which I think is more likely than not, I think a £50-60m fee feels about right.

He must be valued at £70m.
It's hypothetical anyway as he is signed for us till '27.
To replace him we would need Dougie at his very best to dig out some unknown.
Average strikers as we know cost a minimum of £30m and even then it does not guarantee any goals.
Most importantly as a fan, Mateta is the kind of person that we want to keep.
He is a big character and a great player.
Incredible what Glasner has done with him in such a short time.
