Newspapers reports (so it must be true lol), that Man U want Mateta for GBP 40mil.

Is this is a good deal? 12 months ago, I would have said take the money. But PL goals are difficult to come by. Why would we sell him now, as he seems to have attained a new level of performance. He is under contract to 2027.

In this market, 40mil would hardly be enough to replace him with a proven goal scorer.

So surely the reports are just paper talk...

JP has not signed a new contract and the gossip is he wants a Champions League club.

Of course I want him to stay but if United's interest is genuine I can see him going. No idea about the fee but he is running his contract down so that will certainly impact the amount.

Let's hope he decides to stay, some how I doubt it, he is a great player and destined for better things than Palace.

At this rate we'll learn how many of the young players are good enough. If we've lost Mitchell, Guehi, Wharton, Eze, Munoz, Hughes and Mateta they'll need to be.

Man U won't be a Champions League club though, almost certainly not next season anyway.

And 40 mil is nowhere near enough for a top striker in his prime, even with only a year left on his contract. If he was at a bigger club, they'd want upwards of 60 mil!

His contract runs out in two seasons. I suppose we will be under pressure to sell next season. If he values having a good time and decent team mates he shouldn't go to Man U. They also will not be going into any European tournaments any time soon.
However, no one renewing their contracts is a concern - what's happening there?

Yup, £40m is incredibly low. Newspapers just stoking things up, and I don't think he should be going to a relegation threatened club.

I can see him going elsewhere and failing too, he's clearly clicked with our style of play and the wrong club could see it all dry up.

I reckon by this time next year we won't have Mateta, Eze, Guehi....50/50 on Wharton.

Freedman will have plenty of money for replacements and like every year....fingers crossed.

I have a good feeling about next season....then again, I had that about this season as well.

I hope to make a match next season....see the shiny new build.

I have the opposite view. I suspect next season will be a repeat of this. A poor start due to staff turn over with us coming good too late on when the new boys finally gel.

We have tended to make our signings late to enable more rational deals, but it means that the team lacks that highly important understanding between players....that was very noteworthy this season and things could have gone pear shaped.....but I think it might be different next season as not only will the transfer kitty be large but I think Freedman knows his targets and I sense (complete layman's take obviously) that we will get them in earlier this time.

I don’t based on this season. Trying to bed in new players takes time. It’ll be a disaster if anyone leaves this summer albeit I’m expecting guehi to move on and perhaps we can cope with this.

Well thanks for that Stirling. I was having a pleasant Sunday up until I read your post. If we lose M,E,G then it's same old rinse and repeat and potentially without Glasner. He's ambitious and if we lose those 3 plus Wharton I think he'd feel that we are going backwards.

Yeah, I get a lot of that.

We could have up to £500 million to spend. !!!
I would prefer £50m.
Players want higher wages and big clubs will offer them.

Big players in the last year of their contracts aren't going to re-sign.

We probably won't have the choice of not selling but at least Freedman will have financial freedom and we might not have to wait until the end of a window to get players in.
