Mateta Contract

Well Watkins is back at villa , there after the AC Milan striker ,

Look we all have dreams think his was champions lge , live and play in italy and play for France , well he has one of them , if he can get italy just leaving one , lets face its he has one bad agent hence only 2 with him , better agent may have got what he wanted , and does anyone know him personally to attack him , you are only being drip feed by media ,
Hope none of you get on jury duty on a big case that the papers have found him guilty before the trial

Why do we not, now he is fit, Nketiah a run, he is a CF, and the way we play, pace is more important than height.
Nketiah looks sharp.

On another day could have had a goal and 2 assists.

I know Larsson hasn't set the world alight, BUT, he's not played a lot and has showed some smart finishes.

I'd sell JP for anything over 15m. If not I'd happily cut my nose off to spite my face and face and freese him out all season.

Unfortunately that’s the story of his career. Could have but hasn’t

Hope there is something in this. If it's a choice of David or Waltemade I'd go for David, but I'm happy enough if we do go for Waltemade. Basically, move JP on.

We can't have a player at the club that is trying to worm his way out of his contract early. He's not focused on his job, doesn't want to be here, that's not useful to us and at worst it will affect the rest of the camp.

The club are given he started at the weekend but because every time he runs his hamstring pops within a month, I think he has to be treated as sellable or 'a bonus to have around'. His injury record is far too bad to actually consider him in squad planning - same as Doucoure, Riad and Franca. He's 27 with 24 career league goals having never played abroad and with nothing to his game other than poaching. It's hardly reliable - I'm not confident he'd start for Hull or Coventry.

This case is a good example of how easily the word 'legend' gets thrown around in football these days albeit I don't think Palace are as bad at this as others.

The team of the last 2 years has had enormous success but you go back to Speroni turning down Warnock at QPR to help keep us alive, Paddy McCarthy dragging us through those few months before Hillsborough - almost certainly playing with half a hamstring, Darren Ambrose staying that summer to put up with George Burley when he'd have been entitled to go and surely had offers. I don't think there's anything Damien Delaney wouldn't have done. 'We all dream of a team of Alan Lees' was a bit of a joke but there was something to be said for leaving all of your limited ability out there.

Your Matetas, Kamadas, Munozs are far more talented footballers but they happened to be in the right place at the right time. They're all publicly saying they're waiting for a United or PSG. If you were in a trench with them you'd turn around for a second and they'd be gone.
But surely we’ve only got one Mateta, one Kamada and one Munoz? 😀

When I was a schoolboy (yawn!) many many years ago all young footballers wanted to play as a centre forward or number 9.
Twenty five or so years ago when my son played schoolboy football , nobody wanted to play centre forward anymore, everybody wanted to be a number 10.

No team was complete without a big lump up top when I started watching football.
Every team had one.

If I compare Mateta to players of that era, he would only be considered merely adequate.
He has goot stature, decent control and knows where the goal is.
However, he's not great in the air without much spring or direction.

Thus his main value seems to be in his rarity.
There aren't too many Mateta's around these days.
He can only play down the middle whereas lots of forwards these day seem to want to drop deep or play wide as well.

As I have said previously nothing has changed with regard to JPM. The only new thing is that "new" contract dispute is now in the public domain. The club new about this months ago.

If we have not lined up a replacement for JPM then this is down to the board.

I was with you until this last sentence. one of Mateta's few strengths is dropping deep, collecting the ball, spraying it wide then running into the box to scuff the finish. he is/was often integral in our counter attacks last season and for me, the only reason he is being picked ahead of JSL.

Yes, he does come back to link the play .
What I meant is that he doesn't try to scheme like a number 10 or play as a narrow winger.

Tottenham have just paid £75 m for Savinho from Citeh (2 goals in 53 games sounds like one of our purchases) so they might not be so interested in Mateta any more.
