That reminded me of some billie Bob American on tik tok I see last week who couldn’t decide what preeeeemier league team to ‘support’ but he’d narrowed it down to Villa or Palace
I did state that in England you don’t pick your club it picks you, but as I don’t know what that means, he probably didn’t either 🤣

I was about to make some corny reply along the lines of "are these mutually exclusive" etc.

Of course they are mutually exclusive. He'd wolf down the lot with an open-mouthed "Amazing!" if they were part of one and the same event.

Bob Dylan is my Marmite suggestion.

In his early days he wrote and sang what I believed were the most wonderful words and phrases ever to be recorded. I loved everything he did, but I discovered very quickly that for every fan there was a detractor, mainly because of his voice. But, as it says in the programme of his 1966 tour 'nobody sings Dylan like Dylan'.

At 85 yrs old he can still write a decent poem, but I do wish he had stopped performing on stage long ago because, even I don't like hearing him sing live today.

A mate of mine went to see him last year, cost him £125 for his ticket and he said he was terrible, didn’t come out from behind his piano so you could hardly see him, sounded terrible and no banter or chat with the crowd. It was a bucket list thing for my mate as well

Has the same birthday as me and Yannick Bolasie. This is the only reason I tolerate him.
 
i did mention in the OP that everybody loved QEII. Although even for a loved Matriarch-type the best one could ever achieve is a 99% popularity rating. And of course everybody hated Bad King John. So neither of those monarchs get onto this thread.

The first one perfectly divided the nation 50:50.

The second one nearly did the same and was a secret Catholic. He was greatly out of step with the religious mores of the nation he led. Loved by his dozens of girlfriends and not so much by all the prudes. His choice of successor led to another UK-internal military conflagration. 50:50

And KCharles III ? Well he has certainly ruffled the feathers of a few architects & Spencers. 50:50 Marmite ? you decide.

Does Oasis count as a person? I feel lkle the personnel are as responsible for the love/hate every bit as much as the art.

I have rarely encountered anyone that represents a middle ground regarding Oasis. Everyone seems to detest them or think they are some kind of geniuses sent by God to preach to a congregation in bucket hats.

Slight deviation but have you noticed how some pop stars are lauded as though they are Mother Theresa and JFK or the "voice of a generation".

I'm not talking about their music or their popularity but what the impact they have on the world. Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, ABBA all very popular but ultimately they are just entertainers.

Bono is just doing a John Lennon (post Beatles) and should just shut up and stick to his music.

That said, the Beatles are probably one of the few artists that did have an impact. They launched (accidentally) the British pop and fashion industries so that they became global brands.

I Forgot Elvis, he launched the Teenagers, in that America and the world woke up to a new group of consumers.

A great shame and it's his more recent 'performances' that turn a lot of people off.

I first saw him go electric at the Albert Hall in 1966 when he had great fun then in the 70s at Earls Court he was miserably religious.

He's never been one to share a tale or two with his audience though.
