Marinakis suing Palace for Defamation

I can’t see SP agreeing to a hands down now that Maranakis has started this. This will go all the way unless Maranakis wants to incur the clubs legal costs earlier!
In my opinion, all this is just designed to deflect from the victory we just had over Forest in the transfer market and to cause pre season disruption.

Marinakis is a wealthy man with connections, but he is up against some very big players if he wants to tarnish the reputation of this club.

Hopefully it will blow over.

According to SSN, the basis of Mary Knickers deformation,@ the high court against the club(not fans) is that the banner has 'harmed his global image' & that the club 1) allowed the banner in the ground & 2) didn't get it taken down quick enough.

Can we tickets for the court case?
The banner said ‘NOT’ involved in those activities. The cartoon is just a satirical caricature as seen in the papers every day of the week for 100’s years.

As the banner implied he wasn’t those things there is little room for defamation.

The fans only had the banner up for minutes and the club couldn’t really legislate for that.

All he is doing is dragging more limelight on himself and making this rivalry go even deeper than it already was. I want us to beat Forest so much!!!!!!

And can we have 26,000 t-shirts printed in the style of the banner for the Forest game, we might as well make it worthwhile 🤣

All courts are usually open to the public. It is terrorist cases, some criminal cases and those involving children where the public may be banned. This is a civil case and will be open but space limited and the press will get there first. No banners, flares, singing, chants, food, beer, or standing allowed. The judge may open proceedings but defer them to another date, close the case as unduly frivolous and unlikely to succeed. In these instances you may not have time to leave the pub and cross the road to the Old Bailey (or wherever) before it is all over.

Out of interest some years ago West Sussex Constabulary kettled Palace supporters before the Brighton game. Among them were doctors, lawyers, a Bishop and … a Judge! That’s the man we need for this case!

Precisely and the courts recognise that satire is not libel.

As for the Club's liability I don't see we have any? Did the club pay for the banner and specify the wording? Were the club warned this was gong to happen and chose to ignore it?

A football match may take place on a private ground but it is a public event much like a wedding. The club should argue that there responsibility is to public safety and this does not fall under that.

Robert Maxwell was famous for suing people but never actually going to court. He would get his lawyers to rack up his costs but continually delay the case so eventually the other side would settle because they ran out of money. I expect Mary Knickers follows the same playbook.

If I was a judge I would tell him to put up or shut up.

I said at the time that it's very easy to get contraband into a football ground and that the HF should've taken it into the City Ground to prove that point. The pat downs at football are terrible. Someone would only have to wrap that banner around themselves (it wasn't huge) and pop a coat over the top and it would've been a doddle. If his case is that the club 'let' the fans take it into the ground then I feel like somebody ought to scrutinise the security at the majority of Premier League grounds.

The one way all of this makes sense is if Marinakis' plan is turning this into a bitter rivalry. Between this and Glasner, it has the potential to turn a standard match into a passionate must see match without putting too much effort into it.

Both teams would be able to sell out, getting additional press coverage with the trial and Glasner and throwing some hate back and forth between fan bases. If the goal is get a buzz going, then I understand the play and the logic behind it.

Because otherwise he's just soft and no one likes an emotionally fragile billionaire.

Claiming a banner harmed his global image is like saying Pol Pot cheated at Buckaroo.

But his last thought probably wasn't, "Those headlines were amazing. I'm a lucky fellow".
He probably thought "I got a lot of hot young girls to w**k me off and I'm now about to get away with it". But he's still not as gross as Marinakis (to steer us back on topic)

The game in October will be a “fiesty affair” I bet Mary won’t even bother turn up, which is just as well because his fat carcass will need to be spread over three seats

I think we should definitely all go to the court case and I imagine a few rousing verses of "f*** UEFA, f*** the High Court and f*** Marinakis" will only strengthen our case.

Also, may I suggest a banner in court to really emphasise the strength of feeling.
