Marc Guéhi

In the end, if Guehi is determined to play for a bigger club, it's about timing.
I'd be thinking that even a tiny risk of being overlooked for the World Cup would not be a risk worth taking when he can still leave next Summer with a big thank you and just maybe a World Cup winners medal.

For the club, it is a question of money. He could just choose to see out his contract which would be a financial blow, but Guehi for another season is worth how much in terms of winning games?
Which is, obviously, more fun for the fans and could see us a few places higher in the league than otherwise, which would mitigate the financial impact somewhat

Even though our owners wealth is a fraction of the big boys for them to raise a combined kitty of £90 million is absolutely nothing in the world of a single billionaire let alone 3 of them. FFP I believe is not an issue at all £90 million? (Only going by what other posters have said so this could be wrong on the ffp)

Owners… put your hands in your pockets please

Agree this is a big moment now this transfer window. If Guehi goes we must replace him. Does anyone know the situation with Diomande as the replacement which was mooted in July?
Oli has asked for the squad and support, he's done his bit with the trophies and team cohesion.
In the past we all said these transfer windows were important but this time it feels different, because we have an actual chance to really improve rather than just staying afloat in the past.
I'm hoping SP relays this to Johnson and the board and over the coming weeks we see a top Guehi replacement (will cost 30-40m) and 3 others as per Olis wishes. Plus keeping Eze which is the other elephant in the room.

Well the accusation towards the Board in terms of perceived underinvestment is nothing new is it ? And the only person that has demonstrated any real ambition was John Textor ! For all his faults, he did call that out.

I’m not going to debate the financial outlay on possible replacements for Guehi and Eze because we’ve done that already.

The bit I continue to struggle with is the failure to sign ‘ squad ‘ players - and the underlying reasons for that. Because I think we should have funds available for that type of player.
Very good point. Clearly i am not a Textor fan but when Roy left and PV came in it was his £90m investment (for 20%) that funded that summer - the Andersen's, Guehi, Olise and even Edouard were bought in during that window.

After covid he put additional money into the club too, hence his ownership increased to c43%.

For all their riches Blitzer and Harris seem reluctant to invest further and Woody's initial investment will go to Textor and not the club.

Buying shares, unless a new issue, is between shareholders not new money

If he's that kind of price how the hell aren't other clubs swarming around?

Chelsea ought to be in there, Arsenal ought to be in there too. Makes no sense at all.

Its certainly a strange one but then again if anyone else got involved there would be an auction and the price would likely go up to somewhere around his true value which is at least twice what Liverpool are paying

Yep, I was thinking exactly the same thing, but now's the time for Mr P to press Woody into making a substantial financial injection to demonstrate his serious commitment to 'our incredible club'.

I think he stays and see's out his contract.

Its better we keep him and have a good season rather than us finding a replacement and getting him up to speed.

He's done well for us good luck to him

I believe our recruitment process has been second to none over the past 5 years and results would back that up. Why some of our top talent feel it is better to leave Palace I'm not sure but we do need to move on and quickly. In Wilf's days the difference in talent between him and the majority of the starting 11 was enormous, but today Guehi versus LaCroix or Eze versus Sarr is arguably minimal!.

Glasner has shown he make a team better than the sum of the parts.

Whilst I wish both players commit more years to the club, that possibility is not likely. If our new starting 11 contained players such Kiwior, Bisseck, Nusa or Trossard etc. as replacement then how much weaker would we be?

This will be a copy/paste scenario in January if we do nothing!

That's essentially what i've said.

The Blitzer and Harris purchase essentially bought out most of the shares from the original 4 (with Parish keeping his), but the Textor 20% purchase was new shares so could be used as transfer funds for Vieira.

The Woody purchase was for Textor's shares so no new money for the club

It was your first paragraph that is incorrect, not new money, it's a misunderstanding I've seen before on here

I think everyone accepts that, but that doesn’t mean we should just sit on our hands and spend nothing. We need players through the door so hopefully they have been identified and we will see bids going in shortly. I’m expecting us to be buying in the £8m-£12m sort of price range rather than the £20m-£30m range although forwards don’t come cheap.
I’m not suggesting we should sit on our hands . The club has made steady progress, not sat on its hands, and it’s more of that I call for.
I can see where you are coming from over getting players in, I think everyone can agree the squad needs a few added. As ever the problem is do they improve the team for the money we have.? Getting that in the £8m-£12m range can be done but they are not easy to identify. It’s a lottery at times . Muñoz, £8m yes. Nketia, nearer £30m not yet he hasn’t.

Guehi has shown no desire to sign a new contact, accordingly I can only deduce that he wishes to seek employment elsewhere. It would appear that he has decided that the time has come for him to depart.
Steve Parish has stated that the club cannot afford to see Guehi depart on a 'Free' so he is inferring that he needs to be sold in this 'Window'.

This does need to happen now. Will it though? Interesting there is no auction. Just a top side that are acting as if this has been thrust upon them not sure if he will work out. And what if Marc, doesn’t want to move yet, because his agent already has a deal lined up? This outcome is what Marc, and his team have tended to look as if they favour, yes he has been loyal if he remains loyal he will go for nothing.
