That's fair enough but how often has a defender been injured by an opponent doing an overhead kick?

If you raise your foot above head height its a foul. As with shirt pulling or pushing an opponent the ref tends to let it go if its in no way harming or threatening to harm someone. In this case there was a threat because Maguire was close enough to have been kicked in the face (and obviously pretended he had been)

They're there to get hassled by the managers but shrug it off.

Agreed, As I said Maguire should have received a yellow card for both his pretence of injury from Strand-Larson's high kick AND his blatant foul on Guessand where he made no attempt whatsoever to play the ball.
If anyone should have gone off it should have been 2x yellows for Maguire

And a statement from the PFA that their members will be censured for future incidents.

Must be Maguire's lucky week. Not only did he escape a yellow card for deliberately cheating against us , but also he got off his court case in Greece. Lucky boy!
