big money has ruined football. Forget about cheating referees. Even just the idea that small Prem clubs are on the same pitch as Man Citeh, Liverpool etc....... its a form of cheating that everybody seems to accept as ok.
For contrast Gaelic football , in ireland, is an amateur affair. The fellas running up and down the pitch on a Saturday ? they are all school teachers, cops, and office workers. Much more fair, much more entertaining than the biased soccer World.

I think referees are just generally incompetent, not biased.
In their defence, it can’t help that they’re expected to keep up with the pace of play from one end of the pitch to the other, thus requiring fitness levels akin to the footballers themselves. Being knackered and out of breath must affect their judgement and decision making. Maybe we should have 2 refs,ie, one for each end of the pitch!?

I understand the frustration, but saying the game is “rigged by big money” is a stretch. If you look at the match objectively — even on CafeScore — Arsenal and Chelsea had very similar overall ratings and key stats. One controversial moment doesn’t equal systemic corruption.


Big clubs have more resources, yes, but that doesn’t mean every decision goes their way. Football has always had financial gaps — it’s just more visible now

Clearly Cunha was held back outside the box and the referee and VAR seeing that Lacroix had a hand on the attackers shoulder when he tumbled inside the area deemed that a penalty should be awarded. Given this decision was made, it is understandable that a 'Red' was issued.

Call me biased but I would have booked Cunha for simulation and awarded a free kick to us!

Last week Whartons foul for Wolves penalty was far worse than Lacroix's yesterday. Their player was clear on goal, centre of the area, but no red card and Wolves were punished for their player kicking the ball away.
It's all swings and roundabouts with these decisions, but I think we all know, that if Whartons tackle was on a top 6 side, he would of been sent off.

Wharton made a genuine attempt to win the ball, so it wasn't a red because of the double jeopardy rule. It couldn't be argued that pulling a player back is a genuine attempt to win the ball fairly, the question is whether Cunha was pulled back to a degree that it impedes him and if so was it in the area.

The difference is one of whether or not the player made a genuine attempt to play the ball, hence why Wharton only got a yellow. Lacroix made no attempt to play the ball so if the ref deemed it a penalty (and he shouldn't have) then a red card as well as the penalty apply.

Had the ref decided to give a free kick outside the box instead of a penalty, technically, I believe he could still have sent Lacroix off for DOGSO as he made no attempt to play the ball.

Even Glasner said it was a foul and probably a red card, but he also said the foul was outside the box, which he called "The old Trafford bonus" IMO that is the correct summing up

It's time to issue retrospective yellows after the match for cheating and if the offender already has a yellow from the game then it becomes a red. This way the authorities can pick up all the dives that were missed together with the fake injuries etc. There could also be a points system for repeat offenders which could lead to red cards and increasing match bans.

Something like this would be a start. Cheating is so ingrained in some players and promoted by their managers that they almost seem oblivious to the fact that multiple cameras are present and their cheating is caught for posterity.

At the risk of upsetting all the Glasner lovers, i do not think a decent manager would have made the subs he did after the red card, i know he wont change, but the correct change should have been switch to 4-4-1, with Larsen up top, and Sarr and Johnson going wide, and Muñoz, Richards, Canvot and Mitchell as a back four, the subs that he did was like flying the white flag.

It'd be nice if that happened but with VAR's forensic investigation, and hours to spend on it, there would be about a dozen players a game getting post dated cards.
Now relegation from the PL is estimated to cost clubs £100 m and club owners are coming in from abroad with the sole intention of making money can it be long before there's some sort of legal challenge if there is a clearly demonstrable error made by the officials?
