Because they see these threads and realise that this is the only way they have any chance of getting one. That's why the Guide to Buying & Selling recommends that members only sell to people with a history of posting on Hol (and not just on the Ticket thread either). No guarantees there either, but less chance they are a tout or MU fan..........

Nah, not a United fan. I got my visa sorted for this date and grabbed the membership as soon as it came through. Just hoping to catch the match and see Nketiah down the wing.
