A few stories out there that we are after him, also can be said of Liverpool and Man United apparently.

Another one to have featured regularly for Sage last season. Product of Red Bull Salzburg, he has spent a year each at RB Leifering, Grazer AK, Zulte Waregem, Rapid Wein, and Lens. 189 appearances in all comps, 25 goals, 15 assists.

Known as a tough, physical, defensive midfielder, he would probably usurp Hughes. Circa £30 million.

Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare is in advanced talks with Brentford over a €48 million move, according to L'Equipe.

The Mali international joined Lens from Rapid Vienna last summer and was a key figure as the club finished second in Ligue 1, just six points behind Paris Saint-Germain.

He was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year as a result.

L'Equipe also say Crystal Palace - managed by former Lens boss Pierre Sage - have entered the race and could make a higher bid.

Although a good player and one that Sage knows well, there is no way in hell that a club of our size should be paying a fee like that. As we've seen recently with Johnson and JSL it can backfire in terms of form but more importantly it restricts investment in the wider squad.

We need to invest much more into the scouting side of things and spread our investments further. Sangare was a 5m transfer only last summer! There'll be more available this year too.

You could spend 50m on him or instead sign both Jordan James and Shea Charles with possibly still a little change left over. I know what I'd rather do.

100%, got to be smarter than buying them the season after they explode.

Amazing how little old Brentford are ready to splash 41mill on him to replace old man Henderson
we’re seem to be struggling to find a penny to buy someone until we sell sell sell
We’re still looking to replace Guehi as canvot wasn’t his replacement.
So god knows how long it will take to replace lacroix??

50 mil on someone in January.

apart from the he plays for lens and our manager came from lens, its all clickbait that we want to sign him, he might be worth 20quid or 50 million for all we know!

Remember they sold Mbeumo, Wissa and Norgard last summer....they have already sold their big guns

Well, at least Parish has now told Hobbs he has a free hand to buy whoever he wants as long as they are free. Kamada, Mingueza, Tomiyasu (possibly) etc.
Kamada very famously not a Sage signing...

Presumably Pierre would be exactly the man who'd know.

bit unfair to compere bren. with JSL.
strand may well come good & hes scored several very decent goals unlike BJ.

The lad was, of course, one of the best during his year in Vienna with Rapid. Whether that’s enough for the Premier League and whether he’s worth the money is another matter. What I do remember very clearly, though, is that he seemed to lose his brains every now and then completely. In the Conference League quarter-final Rapid😀jurrgarden, in the 7th minute, he completely unnecessarily broke an opponent’s shin at a 90-degree angle with a tackle in the centre of the pitch. Naturally, he was sent off, and Rapid went on to lose the second leg with 10 men, even having already won the first leg away from home. So – even though he was in general a good player – I found the bloke a bit eerie and was glad when he was gone.

They received over £130m last summer.

Wissa had 1 year left of his contract and was 29. He was desperate to go but Brentford held firm until they got the transfer fee they wanted/expected.

They got over £50m i believe.

Similar with Mbeumo - they stood firm until £70m was offered.

The year before with Toney they did similar and got £40m for a player with 1 year left of his contract.

Compare that with Lacroix's depart and transfer fee.

Lacrouix is a centre back. Attackers prices are double that of a centre back. Centre backs are easier to replace.
