Main Stand redevelopment thread

Announced today a £130m revamp of the National Sports Centre. I appreciate the number of parties involved but should this not have been the answer. Bung in another £100m and would that not produce a better result for everybody particularly the club. I know an old chestnut, I'll retreat.
They didn't want us in there, so it's a non-starter really

I used to live in that part of London and remember being approached by four Ipswich fans who had been walking around the park asking why the football turnstiles weren't open yet...

If it was in the North or Midlands the gov would have thrown a load of cash behind all the infrastructure works and it would have happened

National Sports centre is a much less complicated build compared to ours. They also have very few events there compared to Selhurst Park. It would have made alot of sense for CPFC and the sports centre to join forces, save money and share a revamped stadium at CP but hey ho.
We will see progress bit by bit, it will take 2 years altogether. The work so far has included relocating the away dressing rooms under the Holmesdale Stand and relocating office staff into where the Crystals nightclub used to be. I think the portacabins by the Holmesdale and the row of council houses behind the main stand will be demolished in the summer. Its been a long time coming but it is happening, we just need to be a little bit patient I guess.

The swimming pool and indoor facilities building is listed!!
You really can’t make this country up anymore. It has gone to the dogs. Still, looks like the athletics will be repaired and even get a new lick of paint.
Will be interesting to see how the finished product compares to Morocco’s new 115,000 super stadium. Ready in two years from now for € 500m approx, including all surrounding infrastructure and transport connections.
Something has gone horribly wrong here.

The problem with the NSC would be the running track .
We would end up with a stadium like west ham no atmosphere and soulless

You wonder why they are throwing £130m at this, when there is the Olympic Stadium in Straffoird. If it was good enough to hold an Olympics, surely its good enough to be a National Sports Centre.
There are obviously vested interests here and someone is on a nice little earner.

Depends where you live. Crystal Palace Park i serviced by four stations band 16 bus routes making it the best connected league ground after Hammers in Stratford.

Yeah for people that live local, anyone else its far easier to get to selhurst or Norwood junction, trains every 10 mins from London Bridge or Victoria/Clapham

No it varies.

Myself for example to get to Selhurst if everything runs as it should takes around 3hr 40min and to get this other location is around 2hr 20min which is a big difference.

You must live in one of the only places in England where thats the case as anything south you get a direct train straight to london bridge, Clapham Junction or Victoria, that always go through east Croydon anyway, anywhere else you're going to london and just making your way to Victoria or london bridge. Whatever the case, its far easier for more of our fans to get to selhurst than Crystal Palace.

That was the original plan, early on in the Parish revolution. I believe it even got announced on the club website.

Then it got scrapped and we got a new plan, for a new stadium on the same site as the current.

That’s slowly been altered and edited down until it became just one new stand, meanwhile the stated finish date came and went and we can’t even see any changes, although we have been assured work started this season and has been ongoing.

It might be nice to get an update.

I recall when they designed the Olympic Stadium the plan was to have a scaled down athletics stadium available all year round. But that got overtaken and then Wet Spam took over. The issue now is it's not an athletics facility any more (despite its design) and only turned back into an athletics stadium for a week of the year around the anniversary games.

So, there does need to be a better athletics provision in London and it's a case of whether to update Crystal Palace or rip to part of the park at Stratford to do it, which would be a lot more costly. The NSC is a much more logical choice.

I think the NSC holds about 15,000, but the two 'ends' could be built upon to probably get to double that figure, but would it be worth it? Probably only if Selhurst had to be closed during a rebuild and we moved there temporarily. It can be increased to about 24,000 with temporary stands. But the running track would kill any atmosphere.

The right thing to do at Crystal Palace Park would be for the GLA to give the £130m public funding to Steve Parish and allow CPFC to build a new stadium there with no running track. Otherwise a revamped athletics stadium is just going to be a white elephant.
