In a season where survival went to the last few games...

But where we made our first European final...

Was bowing out early a good thing?

We are not a big club. We cannot go for multiple trophies AND stay up. We lack the resources to do so sustainably.

Ignominious and humiliating being on the wrong side of the biggest upset in cup history but pragmatically and ultimately good?

It was a perfect storm for Macclesfield, our poor form, our injuries, plastic pitch, which their captain said that Marc guehi admitted to him out on the pitch we didn’t fancy that at all. Plus don’t forget, these Macclesfield players, most of them had league experience, it was their cup final and they were well up for it, which was the exact opposite of our lot.
by the time the European final is done we’ll have played 17 games in that competition, so it probably did do us a favour getting knocked out early, but we could’ve at least avoided the embarrassment of defeat against a non league team and got knocked out by Brentford the next round!
