As I recall, when Kenny had robbed the ball off the opposing winger (without ever touching him - amazing timing in the tackle) he'd not infrequently bomb forward with the ball and try a cross or a through pass to a more forward player.Lanzo as you’re of a similar vintage to me, I’m wondering how King Kenny Sansom would’ve done as a Left Wing back rather than a good old fashioned Left back. He was swift and a great tackler, but not so sure he would’ve been overly great getting forward a lot more than he used to have too? Possibly?
I seem to remember Sansom scoring against Arsenal at Highbury I was there that day albeit a youngster. My memory is a bit vague but I think he bombed down the wing and belted it in for a rare victory for us?As I recall, when Kenny had robbed the ball off the opposing winger (without ever touching him - amazing timing in the tackle) he'd not infrequently bomb forward with the ball and try a cross or a through pass to a more forward player.
I might have my rose-tinted spectacles on, of course.
I was present and correct at the game.I think he would have been excellent, i was at Highbury when Sansom scored, we all went mad and a guy on the terrace next to me dropped his glasses and i (accidently) trod on them, with all the jumping around, and broke them, if you are on HOL i apologize for the accident, if my memory is correct the game finished 1-1 with Gerry Francis (donut boy) at the time. missing a penalty.

I was at that game as well and the score was 1-1 as I only went to Highbury on that one occasion. Also we got our first ever league win against them (1-0) in the home game earlier that season. We've only had 4 league wins against them since,I think he would have been excellent, i was at Highbury when Sansom scored, we all went mad and a guy on the terrace next to me dropped his glasses and i (accidently) trod on them, with all the jumping around, and broke them, if you are on HOL i apologize for the accident, if my memory is correct the game finished 1-1 with Gerry Francis (donut boy) at the time. missing a penalty.

Our erstwhile player David Price was in the Arsenal team in that era. That was one of those memorable results that season, Arsenal had a great side then, Brady, Rix, Woodcock, Stapleton, Jennings.
